We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerri Plummer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gerri, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
One of my most important decisions was to change from fine art to crafting in the early 1970’s after I had my first child
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I design and make all of my gifts, accessories and decor. I love crochet, quilting, smocking and crafts. I do put part of myself in each piece and it’s so thrilling to see my pieces being enjoyed. A few lessons I’ve learned 1)watch trends but keep your own style, 2) money does not equal success because you have to be successful for your own self 3)some people will try to discourage you so don’t listen to them (even when you try to discourage your own self!)
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Galveston beach, seafood and Mexican food restaurants , Rosenberg library, Houston zoo and shopping at Hobby Lobby and quilt shops. Hearing local singers -Lyda (my favorite)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, sister, husband and my 8 children and God who gave me all this creativity!
