We had the good fortune of connecting with Terray Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terray, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, Tripodd started out as “Tripodd Poetry” primarily focusing on projecting my love for spoken word. As a birthday gift I received a handheld tripod for my phone with a Bluetooth button for hands free capabilities to record my own performances. As time progressed I began to dip into the fashion scene as well, and that led to Tripodd becoming a multi-faceted business, hoping to offer as much creativity and content to our supporters as we can.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Tripodd is a mixture of Poetry, Apparel, and Entertainment. As a Navy Veteran I have taken the many skills I’ve learned during my service and applied them to how we operate. Poetry is the foundation of our business and is a cornerstone in our successes. We specialize in crafting comfortable, fashionable street wear clothing, all authentic and hand-embroidered. We also focus on producing relatable content on our social media platforms relative to both pop culture and our loyal audiences. Starting Tripodd was the easy part, but maintaining the interests and attention of our supporters is a consistent challenge that we continue to tackle head on, and achieve. To stay motivated I tell myself it’s going to take time to reach the goals we have in place, and I’m working on developing the patience we will need to succeed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My lady and I love to go out and try new places. We are both from San Diego, CA but I graduated high school from North Shore High School so I’m no stranger to the city. We moved to Houston last November and since then we have explored different areas such as Katy and Midtown and so far we’ve enjoyed being here. The open mic scene is very welcoming and entertaining, and the food speaks for itself. I would definitely recommend any of the Pappas Franchise restaurants to experience a solid example of Houston cuisine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a special s/o to The Most High and my lady Aliyah. All we have accomplished is because of his guidance, and She has been the source of support I could have never asked for. I run the business, but she MAKES it run. I am truly blessed
