We had the good fortune of connecting with Kunal Khorana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kunal, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
To be honest I had a great childhood early on, but at around the time I was 14 or 15 years old things took a pretty drastic turn. Then life became a lot of mental trauma, growing up too fast, pain, suffering, anguish, and all of the other negative descriptive words you could think of. I lost my kidneys at the age of 15 and was put on dialysis, as well dealing with another disease called TTP that had a 96% mortality rate, beat that and then had to have a kidney transplant a year later. That transplant only lasted about a year and a half, and my disease came back. I had to be placed back on dialysis. It was during this time that I was involved in a drug scandal. Long story short it was one of those situations like the commercials where they say “if you’re taking this drug call this number.” Well I went through one of those, that caused me to become handicap, cause severe pain, had to be put on fentanyl and had to have a second transplant before the bad drug killed me. At one point because of my handicap I fell and broke my hip. My pain tolerance was so high I walked on it for 6 weeks till my hip was in two pieces. At the end of the day I had to have multiple surgeries, hip replacements, knee surgeries, feet surgeries all due to this drug scandal. This drug was put out by one of those big Pharma corrupt companies that we see in the movies. I’ve had over 30 surgeries in my life, two transplants both dead, and I am currently on dialysis, battling another very very lethal disease at the moment. I was addicted to fentanyl for eight long years until I got off in 2013 without rehab. I’ve had my heart stop for five minutes in the emergency room, dearth with ungodly amount of pain, seen constant death, and so many more experiences like this that shaped who I am, my personality, and how I view things.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that I am comfortable when the situation around me is uncomfortable. I have been trained by my life experiences to deal with struggle, deal with pain, and deal with uncomfortable circumstances that enable growth. I have one of the strongest minds of anybody I’ve ever known. I don’t fold or quit easy, in fact I don’t even know how to quit and sometimes that is also my downfall. I got to where I am professionally by having no other choice but to be an entrepreneur. My circumstances ensure that nobody would hire me for that I would ever be able to hold a regular job. I also knew since I was a kid that I am not the personality that wants to work for somebody. I like to make my own schedule, I like to make my own decisions and be the driving authority in my life. Was it easy? Absolutely not, let’s not forget that I’m on dialysis, in a wheelchair, and dealing with massive amounts of pain every single day. I overcome the challenges like I’ve overcame everything else, by telling myself “this is life, this is then situation you’re in and you’re going to figure out a way.” This is what I meant when I say “my mother raised me to be fierce.” You can do whatever you want in this life and you don’t lose until you give up.” I just want the world to know that my brand All For The Culture/Kunal Khorana is about motivating, my brand is about hope because without hope you can never do anything productive. If you don’t believe that you are meant for anything great, or that you can achieve what you want out of this life, you can’t do anything. I’m the kid That was told after I got sick, that I had “no future.” Now I’m doing more than the people who said that, That right there is what my personal brand is about. Not only that but my brand All For The Culture, which does work in the music industry was built to help artist. Our goal is to sign artist maximize the revenue in the music game, and then show them how to invest in real estate, franchising, stocks and bonds, and other assets. These are all things that I’m involved in now and and have the infrastructure to make happen for any artist, with one phone call as soon as an artist starts making the type of money that will allow them to invest in these assets. Our goal is to Have our artist rich from assets outside of music. So that one day if they would like to stop doing music, they have that option. All For The Culture is a record label of the future that will never have a reputation of cheating over artist.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they Oh I love this question because this is my city. I’ve lived here all my life and I’m good to go anywhere in the city. So I would definitely take my friend out to the best spots to eat that I love. We would go to Turkey Leg Hut of course, we would have to hit Frenchy’s chicken, we would have to go to Pizarro‘s pizza or Lunas Pizza. We would have to hit Harry’s for breakfast and Sleepys Po boys for sure. Chinese food at Mala Sichuan. I would definitely have to show them Houston nightlife, show them how Houston is on a Sunday fun day, with brunch and the whole 9 yards after. I will definitely have to take them to the Galleria for shopping, and other places like Premium Goods and Faculty Hype. If you come to Houston you have to check out the George Floyd memorial. But to be totally honest ever since my handicap, and getting older, I don’t go out too much. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and loved ones at my house or theirs. I can definitely show you the city though!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This interview is dedicated to three very important people. My mother, my father who passed away this past October from a bout with cancer, and my grandmother who passed away five days before my father, this is my father’s mother. My mother raised me to be a strong, fierce go getter, My dad raised me to be a thinking man, respect all women and that reputation is the most valuable currency that anybody can trade on. My father was also my business partner and my mentor, he taught me everything I know about business up until this point. My grandmother who lived with us all our lives and was another mother, raised me to always have character no matter how much success I obtained.
