We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Strauss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elizabeth, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
At All Organized we value integrity as it is key to life and business. Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. The type of work that our company does, moving seniors from their family home into senior communities, would not run well without integrity.
Mary Anderson and I, the owners of this business, know that integrity cannot stop with our external customers but must extend to our team members, which is why our management style is transparency. Sometimes integrity means having a difficult conversation to say “hey, something went less than perfect with this outcome”, or with a team member when something isn’t going right, but you are being upfront and honest which builds trust.
Integrity can also be expensive, like paying a high premium for maximum coverage insurance for our moving operation as well as paying above industry standard rates to our entire team. Integrity is what allows Mary and I to sleep at night and run a successful business that will be around for a long time that we can grow and replicate in other parts of the country.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am so proud of who we get to serve, the seniors of our communities. Often times our seniors are so overwhelmed, their families are too overwhelmed, too busy, don’t have the expertise, or don’t live nearby to help (there is nothing wrong with this, it is a fact of life), I am so proud of the systems and processes that we have in place that create senior moves that we came up with all on our own. I am so proud of every single team member and the role that they play to make every job successful. I am so proud at the end of every job when a senior turns to us and says, “I didn’t think this move would be possible and you made it happen in just 3 days”. I am so very proud of the integrity and efficiency we bring, to the senior downsizing process. We are a small business, but we think and act big. What we are creating today is also the building blocks of future All Organized locations outside of the greater Houston Area. I am so proud of the growth we have seen in our business consistently year after year that was built very organically.
I think what sets us apart is our value of efficiency, when we see or hear something isn’t working as well as it can we change it to work better. We truly value our customers experience with us, we want everyone to find more value in our service than what they pay at the end of service. When the business was first started we strived to do things the right way, not the cheapest, easiest, or most convenient, and we have continued to operate that way to this day, by doing things the right way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A perfect day in Houston starts with breakfast at Tout Sweet, then looking at the art at the sawyer silos before it gets too hot. A stroll through the museum of natural science. Lunch at Tiny Box Woods followed by shopping on 19th street with an ice cream snack at Jeni’s Splended Ice Cream, a stroll though Menil park and dinner at Pondicheri.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that deserve credit and recognition.
To EVERY single team member that shows up and brings their best to All Organized every single day. Rhonda, Danielle, Renee, Itza, Ricardo, Cynthia, Nava, Emma, Samuel, Luis, Brandy, Sarah, Julie, Mitzi, Antonio, Michelle, Veronica, Kendall, Regan, Cheryl, Ray. This business doesn’t work unless we all do. Every team member past and present is why we are successful.
Mary Anderson, my wonderful friend and business partner for helping me tame, mold and grow this business into what it is today and all of the successes it will have in the future. Her dedication, time, and skills that she has poured into this business to help it grow. The way she shows up every day. Her support for me to take time off when I had a baby, and running the business solo while I got to bond with my child. She took a chance on me and this business, and I am forever in her debt. I love you friend.
To Troy Strauss my wonderful husband who has always jumped into help with the business without complaint, even doing the dirty work like cleaning out the van. He never complained about the long hours I have had to put in or the last minute jobs that I have to run to on a Saturday. His support and encouragement when things have been tough is the reason I have kept going some days. I love you, thank you for the lifetime of love.
Our amazing business coach Michael Anderson who helped us tame the beast and encourages us to grow.
To the communities that trust us to be a part of their sales process and with their amazing residents.
The awesome book E-Myth, I call it the business bible.
And to my absolutely amazing daughter Delta Pearl. You have taught me a love and tenderness that I didn’t know a human being could feel , you brought my humanity back. You bring goodness to my life that I will never be worthy of. I love you more than then known and unknown universes combined. You were worth the wait my love.
