We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Cabeen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, let’s start with a hypothetical. What advice would you give to someone facing insurmountable odds?
The advice I would give is that you have to keep going, no matter what. I know it sounds cliche and you have probably heard it hundreds of times, but it is the best advice, ever! If you are hitting obstacles left and right, or if you are hit with one big obstacle, if you give up, you wasted all of the time, money, effort that you put into your business, into yourself. You need to keep going: come up with ideas to get through the situation. For example, if you own a brick & mortar store and it was shut during the Covid-19 pandemic, shift to 100% online sales, advertise solely online, use Facebook & Instagram, etc. When you are faced with trials and tribulations, keep going, you never know what will happen.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our story is simple: hard work, patience, and determination got us to where we are today. After operating for 2.5 years (open for 3), my business partner was able to quit his full time job as a professional chef and work our business. I was able to go full-time after 1 year, and after 3 years, we are fully booked and are talking about hiring someone! We believe that this has happened because God has guided us down the right path and helps us make the right decisions & continues to do so. We have truly been blessed with the ability to work with animals on a daily basis, it’s a dream come true!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Houston is SOOOOOOO BIGG!!!!! Since we drive all around town for work, we can definitely recommend some places to check out! You definitely want to hit up some eateries in Montrose, like Good Dog Houston & Barnaby’s cafe. Smoosh is also hit, especially if you LOVE ICE CREAM. But then, if you want to check out the NW side, Connie’s Custard and El Gallo Mexican Restaurant are the places you want to go. However, if your not a foodie like me and still want to visit awesome places, Meyer Park in Spring is where you want to be. They have running trails, soccer fields, baseball fields, paved tracks, and a large dog park area. If your looking for something closer to the loop, Memorial Park is great, but if your are not a park person, you need to go to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. They have giant dinosaurs and a moon.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This shoutout goes to our amazing clients, we couldn’t do this without you! We own a dog walking & pet sitting business and our clients (not just the furry ones) are so amazing, especially during the Covid-19 crisis. They are continuing to use our service even though they are working from home, and some of them are signing up for extra services just to help us out. We are so thankful for them because we are able to continue operating our business during this time. We love all of them & cant thank y’all enough for your support! They are not just clients, they are family.
