We had the good fortune of connecting with Amya Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was a kid I’ve always been very creative, however as I got a little older I felt like I was losing that part of myself until I started my business. Designing and baking treats helped me to find that creativity within myself again and motivated me to continue trying new things and moving forward with my business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is unique in a way that not many people started their business as selling treats at their middle school. I’ve had the opportunity to somewhat grow up along side my business which truly grew my love for what I do and pushed me to put as much effort into my business as I could while also keeping up with my school work. I’ve made it to where I am now with perseverance and a drive to reach my goals. It is not always easy, as there are some times of frustration or disappointment, however I have been able to keep going rather than giving up. Support from my mom, family members and friends have all helped me to overcome any challenges that have come my way. I have been able to learn so much about people and how important it is to support one another as human beings by having a business of my own. I’ve been taught so much by other business owners and family friends and I’m truly thankful for the help in building my business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week we would probably go and try a new food place that we’ve never been to and take some cute pictures on one day. Then another day would likely be more chill by just going to the movies or watching movies at home. Typically, I enjoy watching the sunrise especially outside in nature so we’d probably go to this spot that’s next to a small pond that has rocking chairs and like a little pavilion and sit there and eat breakfast from shipleys or Starbucks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my mom. I started my business pretty young, when I was still in middle school and ever since then my mom has been on my side and supporting me every step of the way. Without her I would not have accomplished all that I have. My mom has always pushed me to be great in life and I’m determined to make her proud.
