We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Vodney Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D’Vodney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was pretty simple, I wanted to be my own boss and I wanted a better way of providing for my children.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most proud of the fact that I created something from nothing that people love and want, and it has been a rollercoaster ride this whole journey but through it all I stay strong and keep my head held high. Getting to where I am today was very hard and chaotic, but I honestly needed every single part of it to grow as a man, a business and a businessman. There was plenty of nights I wanted to quit and throw the towel in, but I had to remember who I do it for and why. I can’t quit. Quitting was never an option growing up. When things got tough, I got tougher. Iron sharpens iron. The biggest lesson I learned was to always follow your heart and dreams no matter what anyone says or thinks about it or you. I want the world to know the real me. The little kid from Longview, Texas. The smallest kid on the football field but the one with the biggest heart. The young man that grew into a father and puts his children first before anything. I want the world to know that even in the darkest hour of your life, there is someone wishing they could hold you, love on you, see your smile and so much more. Chin up, head up, never let them see you frown. I want the world to see my brand and fall in love with it. I want the world to rejoice about my brand. I want the world to know and love Thee Royal Market.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Growing up in Houston was very different than the country but was fun and worth it. A few of my favorite places to eat and have drinks at would be Daiq’s, Lotus Seafood, New Spot Eatery and Pappadeuax’s. The museums and art shows are definitely a must. I like to hang out at a few different places like Vertex Lounge.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send a special shoutout to EVERYONE in my camp. There are way too many names to name individually, and I do not want to miss anyone. But first and foremost, I would like to say thank you and I appreciate you to my mother for believing in me and never giving up on me. And to my everyone who has supported me, I thank you as well for believing in me and never folding on me. My team, I love each and every last one of you from my core.
