We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrystal Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I learned at the early stages of my business that I made a difference in lives women’s of women that I provided services to. Providing them with amazing customer service and quality services was one thing, but to be able to empower and uplift them was so fulfilling and rewarding. I knew from the first time I serviced someone that this was meant for me and I never gave up on bettering myself and my craft! As a woman I understand the emotions we go through and the things we sometimes face regarding confidence/self esteem, so it’s always super heart warming to enhance a woman’s natural beauty and help them to see the beauty that has always been within them from the very start.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To me, it’s more than offering makeup applications. It’s enhancing the beauty that women already have and helping them feel like their best self. The most important thing that sets me apart is my professionalism and transparency. Anyone could be good at their craft but if you don’t know how to work with people, be kind and give common courtesy, your business could suffer as a result. I always strive for an appointment to be an experience thats fulfilling and enjoyable and I come across some of the most beautiful women and we can always talk about any and everything. At times I walk away from the conversation with more motivation, encouragement or simply a perspective on life, I always appreciate my clients that can pour into me too!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friends were coming to town, I’d like to take them to the to the “Museum for Black Women” , go out to the Milk & Honey Spa and Perry’s for dinner and drinks. I’d also love to find a nice lounge for an R&B night to vibe to great music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give credit to my mom (that is also an entrepreneur) and my best friends, that encourage me to begin my artistry and believed in me every single step of the way. I personally was always into all things beauty but it wasn’t until someone who knew my mom asked if I could provide services for their wedding party after seeing my makeup, and at the time I was 15 going on 16 years old. I felt that it was a huge responsibility and nervously I originally said no. The very next day my mom came in my room and sat a contract & cash on my bed and told me to begin practicing, at that point I had no choice. I had a few months of practice on my mom, friends, and family which helped me build the confidence in my craft.
