We had the good fortune of connecting with Jheri Walters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jheri, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Many people are unaware of their options to access services. There is so much information on search engines and commercials, that people are often left confused or unsure of which route to go. Often, therapists (including myself eek!) and companies use lingo that is unique to the profession, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing to highlight their skill set or training. This can leave consumers confused on best options to help with their specific concern. In addition, people are often unaware of the financial resources for therapy services. In short, a lack of understanding of how to select a service and pay for it, create barriers to starting or staying in treatment.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I wanted to create a platform that helps consumers find mental health services and support mental health providers. I have partnered with Open Path Collective and various insurance panels to allow flexibility in payment options for services. As of now, I am only able to provide virtual appointments. For some, virtual sessions are convenient, but for others can be stressful. For people that are not interested in virtual services, I can assist with providing referrals for in-person services. For mental health providers, I have partnered with PESI. PESI is a nationally recognized organization that provides education of mental health services to professionals and the general public. In addition to virtual mental health services, I have released my first online self-help program Stress Management | For Her. I hope to provide additional workbooks and guides to promote awareness and education over the next year. My business, Bashen Behavioral Health PLLC is still new and I am excited to see how it transforms over the next few years.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Brandon Walters. From the time we started dating, he has encouraged me to take my passion and ideas to branch out on my own. It took a few years of convincing, but I made the decision a few years after our daughter was born. I really wanted to create work-life balance.
