We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Springer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind my success are my overall responsiveness, customer service, and adding value. 90% of the referral partners I work with are realtors, so being able to help them understand the basics of insurance and how to advise their clients is important. All my partners know to send me property addresses prior to their showings, so they can tell their buyers right away if a house is in a flood zone, and what to expect for the cost of flood insurance. A lot of these requests come in on a Saturday when most insurance agents may be offline, but I make sure to provide that information to my realtors so they look professional and prepared for their showings.

Alright, so how did you get into your industry?
If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be a business owner, I would have probably rolled my eyes and said, yeah right! It’s been a long road to business ownership. In 2006 I had no plans for college. I was working at a dollar store in the morning, and afternoons as a carhop at Sonic until midnight. Thankfully, a mentor told me I was smart, and I should get back in school. I told her I couldn’t because I had no way to pay for college. She helped me find different grants available to those who were the first in their family to attend a university. I started out with junior college, and took my mentor’s advice. She told me to apply myself in every way, academics, campus involvement, and there was potential to go to a 4 year university next. She was right, my junior college paid for my tuition at Texas A&M. I majored in education, and had a career for 6 years teaching math and science. I enjoyed being a teacher, but as many know, I was overworked and underpaid – the most frustrating thing was having some of the highest scores in the district, but not being compensated for it. I eventually found my way to insurance by pure accident, and never thought it would be my forever job. However, a few months of hitting goals, and earning bonuses, I realized it was the perfect career path for me. I was able to help people save money, offer them better coverage, and my pay was a direct reflection of my hard work. I worked as a corporate agent selling insurance for about 3 years, and eventually took the plunge into business ownership when I opened my own franchise in May of 2022.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d probably start the morning with a nice workout at SWEAT – a tough combination of weighted floor exercises, sprints, and sled pushes – finishing up with a freezing cold eucalyptus scented towel. After that, we’d probably grab a coffee at Luce (Black Forest charcoal & matcha for me!) and go for a stroll around Memorial Park. Next up, we would head over to The Post – one of the best food halls in Houston, with a beautiful rooftop view of the city. After that, we would probably hang out by the pool at the Post Oak hotel or the Marriott. Now we need to take a nap! For the evening, we would go out for dinner at Le Colonial, then head over to Washington Avenue for drinks at the Sugar Room.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the biggest cornerstones of my success are the referral partners that have trusted me with the needs of their clients. NextGen Real Estate was one of the first brokerages to give me a chance at earning their business, and it has been really amazing to grow alongside them. When I first found Nextgen, they were only made up of about 8 agents, and in less than 2 years, they have grown to over 150 of the some of the best realtors in the greater Houston area.
