We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started our business back in June of 2016, when I discovered my childhood LEGO collection. I pulled them out of the box and decided to rebuild them, while building I found I was missing pieces. The sets were older but I was hopeful I could purchase pieces from LEGO. After some searching I found out that they no longer produced or carried some of the parts I needed, so I searched around and stumbled across a website called Bricklink. Bricklink is a website of LEGO fans buying and selling to other LEGO fans! I was able to locate a seller selling all the parts I needed to complete the sets. After some searching I located a set I never got when I was a kid and always wanted. It was on the pricey side, so I decided I could sell some of my extra parts and sets to save up some money to get it. That was how we started, I saw a set from my childhood and decided to find a way to get it!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Bricks By Mattmagic is an in-person and online store that specializes in new and preowned LEGO parts and set! We pride ourselves on our selection of over 200,000 individual parts and high selection of new and preowned sets. There has been challenges along the way but it’s mainly been time. It takes time to get separate and organize all those parts!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of our favorite spots to visit are the strand in Galveston, St. Arnold brewing company is a must, the Houston Zoo, Buc-ee’s of course, a baseball game at Minute Maid park, Old Town Spring.
