How did you come up with the idea for your business?

It takes a lot more than an idea to build a business, but there can’t be a business without the idea. So we asked folks who’ve built wonderful businesses to tell us about how they came up with the idea in the first place.

Openair Company and Factory HTX started from my experience live in San Francisco and Austin observing the vibrant makers market. After talking to the many of the artisans makers, I head many of their challenges attempting to grow as a business. Initially started out as a mobile app idea to try out during the pandemic lock down. It was during my participation of Y Combinator in 2022, someone suggested that to truly learn the first hand experience and pain points that I needed to become a makers market organizer. I always research underserved markets of demand of specific products or services. To use my skills and Expertise that I am passionate to combine with market needs can lead to a fulfilling and successful business. Study my competitors and find areas where they are lacking.. Then introduce the unique or fill a specific need. I was inspired by my internship at the Montrose Center to create an additional space for the queer community to be served, but I wanted mental health services to be accessible for more than just Houston.
