Success is creating what you want to see in the world. Whether that’s music, visual art, social change…success is being an active part of creation in a way that’s genuine and honest to who you are. As it applies to my music, I always write what I want to hear/play. I have my personal set of influences, and I naturally draw from those – I very rarely try to write something that I think is going to “sell” or something I think will be a hit. I just create what I enjoy and say the things that I need and want to say. As it relates to lyrics – I have a lot of trouble writing a good song that isn’t rooted somehow in my own experiences. Success to me is defined a little different than the trending narrative on social media these days. For me personally success is insuring my family has all of their needs met. This includes mental, physical, monetary and emotionally.
