By far the most common conversation we have with the folks we interview is about work-life balance. Starting a business or pursuing a creative career makes finding work life balance really tough because there is no clear start and end to one’s work day. March 2020 I was a full time Dental Hygienist working 60 hours a week, an hour away from my home. I was miserable, exhausted and completely burned out! I had ZERO work life balance, it was just work-work-work. I realized I needed a change. I wanted to be in a career that was fulfilling but still allowed me to spend time with my family and focus on my spirituality/health and wellbeing. I started my career in Real Estate in November 2020! Since then I have had the flexibility in my life I have always wanted! I am able to set my own schedule and work when I want to! I have Been able to be around my family a lot more since starting my own business. Before all I would Do is work, and I could Never make family event or birthdays because I would Have to work. I used to work 6-7 day weeks since I was 16. I thought it was normal- if I wanted to succeed I had to work hard enough, harder than everyone else, to make those dreams come true. I even burnt out a couple of times because of how much I was working, and I missed out on a lot of family events and time with my son. Now, at 25 I work 4 days a week and it’s been the best thing I could’ve ever done for myself and my family. And of course when you are starting your business or career for yourself you do need to hustle- but you need to find the appropriate times to do so!
