We had the good fortune of connecting with Actors Quarantine Corner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Actors Quarantine Corner, what do you attribute your success to?
Actors Quarantine Corner is made up of three young African American professional actors, with a unique point of view on matters of working in theatre, the entertainment industry, and everything in between. AQC is a real-talk podcast, with no filter, that gives us a creative edge. Between the three of us, we have performed in theatres all across the city of Houston and abroad, been on movie sets, produced plays, worked with all types of dope creatives, and we also share our talents in the schools. With AQC, we have the ability to create and share our own work, plus shine the light on other artists that are doing big things. That’s the success… creating our own lane, highlighting other runners, and showing up and coming artists that they can run too.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From crisis to creativity, AQC formed during the pandemic lockdown, to show that “our art is pandemic proof.” Our variety show podcast features themed episodes, staged readings, monologue performances, sketches, and interviews with emerging and leading industry entertainers. The AQC crew has journeyed three different roads to get us where we are now in acting. Not one of them easy, but all worth the trip. They all led us to this new creative space where we create and release our own product.
Kendrick, a professional actor since 2007, graduated from PVAMU in Theatre. He is an all around creative, a director with an unmatched eye for detail, and a fierce actor. Kendrick has performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Alley Theatre, The Ensemble Theatre and more. Sharing his gifts with the next generation, he has been a Theatre Arts high school teacher for thirteen years.
Brandon has been a professional actor since 2014, and won Best Actor at the Houston Press awards in 2020 (asterisk year). Born and raised in Houston, attended PVAMU, he has performed at The Ensemble Theatre, Alley Theatre, Rec Room Arts, Stages Theatre, and the list continues. Brandon is your favorite actor’s favorite actor, by his work ethic alone. However, his fun fact: He can swim really good!
Joe P. is a product of Jack Yates HS in Houston and Clark Atlanta University. His interest and growing love for acting began at age 4. His professional career started with The Ensemble Theatre in 2007. Joe is a thought provoking playwright, established director, nationally televised poet, award-winning actor, and teacher with Alief ISD. He has performed with the Alley Theatre, Stages Theatre, 4th Wall Theatre, Houston Grand Opera, and countless others. His acting journey has since spread to commercial work and short film appearances.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any good time in Houston comes with good food! These are the places to go hang out and eat good: Turkey Leg Hut, Taste Bar and Kitchen, Max’s Wine Dive, Bar 5015, Axelrad, and of course Pappadeaux!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our supporters are awesome! We would like to thank them for rocking with us every week and for continuing to support us. AQC wouldn’t be here without them.
