We had the good fortune of connecting with Adama Chisley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adama, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My husband’s and my occupational background is healthcare. Both of us have to wear scrubs to work. He worked in the pharmacy while I work at the hospital. The scrubs given to us by past employers have always been too big, too long, baggy, and bulky. In 2021, we had enough and wanted to create our own brand of scrubs that were the total opposite of those we’ve worn in the past. We wanted our scrubs to be comfortable, true to size, durable, wrinkle-resistant, antimicrobial, and of course stylish for both men and women.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nursing has always been a passion for me long before I became a registered nurse. Watching my mother nurture and take care of my siblings and me sparked a flame in my life, which later led me down the road to being a healthcare professional. Through countless years of nursing school, I have been able to graduate with my associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, and I am currently in school for my master’s. Nursing, in general, isn’t easy at all, and anyone who may have told you that is honestly not telling the truth. My husband has helped me throughout school and running my own scrub company. I want the world to know that we care, we’re not just here to look good, but we honestly want to provide better scrub options for those who are in the profession of taking care of patients who are ill or sick.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The aquarium will always be one of my favorite places to visit. We have a family of five and our boys enjoy the underwater experience. Old lady Gang Southern Cuisine is one of my favorite places to eat at. If you enjoy arcades and good food then Main event is the place to take the family and have some fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We first give thanks to God, but our family, close friends, and Scrublife supporters have been the backbone of our scrub company. In just three years, we’ve been able to accomplish so much. We’ve had the opportunity to be interviewed on podcast stations and over the phone. Last year (2023), we actually collaborated with a family-owned company called The Scrub Spot, which is our first brick-and-mortar location you can visit.
