We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrian & Ruby Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adrian and Ruby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process has always been to create a self-sufficient business that can be passed on to the family. When we started the business, we always thought about our children, family, and the community first. We knew if we created something special the financial gain would come along with it. Now that the business is active and growing, we are constantly learning new things and aspects about the business where we implement the new processes such as understanding who our clientele is, creating systems for large crowds, and how to keep the business fresh and new.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our careers are in the construction industry. We both have started careers in the construction industry where it can be a bit stressful and rewarding at the same time. Although this industry can be stressful the reward can outweigh the stress when the homeowners walk through their home overjoyed for the first time. Knowing not only did you build a home someone can enjoy and create memories in, we can also go back and show our kids this is something we did years down the road.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is a mecca of food variations, we would definitely take them to some of our favorite eatery spots such as The Breakfast Klub and Snooze for breakfast, Rodeo Goat and Turkey Leg Hut for lunch, The Warwick and Rockhouse for dinner. At these places not only do you enjoy good food, but you will catch good live entertainment as well. When our friends come in town, we also make sure we stay in tune with local events rather it be a comedy show at the improve, sporting events, or just catching a good drink at Urban Social or Chapman and Kirby on Sunday funday.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our elders and close family members have really been influential in starting The Scoop. When we originally had the thought to start the business there was Definity self-doubt as to how can we start this business? Where do we get the money to start business? the list goes on. During the build out faze of our trailer we had several conversations with family members encouraging us to keep going and motivating us to not to stop although the process was beginning to be difficult. We personally would like to thank Aunt Jackie, Aunt Caryoln, Jontae, Our Moms (Louann & Marsha), and many other close family members who contributed to motivating and providing business advice to bring The Scoop to life.
