We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, what’s your definition for success?
I define success as living in the moment you’ve always dreamed. Whether it’s driving your dream car, living in your dream house, working your dream job. Anything to where whatever your doing it’s fulfilling

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Other than being a boutique owner, I’m also a mortgage closer. It’s an extremely demanding job that takes a lot of my time. Learning to manage my day to day was (still is) a challenge. One thing that I am looking forward to is when I can do my designing full time. Right now I try to work on my goals 2 to 3 hours after work. And it doesn’t seem like it’s enough. I am a self-taught designer so it does take me longer to sketch and actually create garments. I’ve been in the corporate world since I was 18 and I knew then that wasn’t something that I wanted to stay and do. When I was about 25 I knew that I wanted to have some type of store that sold women’s clothes. Two or three years went by with the idea and one day I just thought to myself the idea needs to become reality. The first thing I thought about was what type of store I wanted to have and what I wanted my store to represent. I love cocktail dresses Gala attire, Anything elegant with a splash of sexy. Once I figured out what I loved I turned that into things that other people would love

Although I love what I do, I’ve definitely made some mistakes along the way. Not having a plan was my biggest flaw.. I jumped in without a plan and I lost a lot of money and customers that I couldn’t recover.. Finding a mentor was the one thing that put me back on track.

My brand is about being who you are and not being sucked in what society wants us to be. I express myself through my clothes and when people see me they think that I am a confident woman. And I am confident because I don’t live by any rules but my own when it comes to fashion. Being sexy being classy being elegant being graceful is everything that my Boutique stands for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we would go to the local gym and do a few classes. We can then head to brunch downtown. That evening we can meet for happy hour at Moxies. If we’re still feeling young, we can go to a chill hookah spot, enjoy music and a few more drinks

The following day we can go to the museum or try to catch a movie.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely shout out to my close circle of friends and everyone who has taken the time to encourage me with words for my business
