We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisa Semiens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisa, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
So at the very beginning of starting Ivy League Ready Tutoring, my work-life balance was pretty much the same because I didn’t have many clients. However as I started to work with 10-15 people consistently a month, my work-life balance was definitely becoming more unbalanced. I am now consistently answering emails and scheduling appointments. I also work 7p-9p every Tuesday-Friday, so my schedule is pretty hectic. I think about balance in terms of making sure my goals are being met, but also my self-care is being met as well. If I can exercise 2 days out of the week, then that’s a win for me right now. I now have it so I don’t work on Mondays so that I can carve out a little more time for myself. I think that’s very important. A win for me is a win for Ivy League Ready Tutoring.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ivy League Ready Tutoring is an online tutoring firm that is helping aspiring teachers pass their certification tests. We specialize in 4-8 ELAR and the PPR. In our short time of being established in 2020, we have helped over 60 people pass their content and PPR exam to become certified teachers.  We also work with K-12th students in reading and writing. I am most proud of our growth. In the beginning of Ivy League Ready Tutoring, I could barely find one client, and one year later, we have a very consistent clientele and we are consistently growing. I now have 2 amazing tutors, Brittani and Mercedes that work with me as well, so it’s definitely a joint effort. I would say it has not always been easy, especially when I was trying to find ways to stand out in an already saturated market, but I am forever grateful to say I did overcome that challenge and Ivy League Ready Tutoring is here to stay.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my opinion, the most interesting places to check out are the Galleria, the Museum district, and Phil and Derek’s for brunch. I love Discovery Green as well if you want to get out in the open and just have fun and chill.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am giving my shout-out to Blinique Me Pretty LLC, a lash company that is dedicated to making sure every woman, every shape, and every complexion feels like a goddess every time she blinks.
