We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia Danielle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nia, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is definitely persistence. Whether it was pushing through a setback or refusing to stop until a certain skill or set of knowledge was achieved, I have tried my best to remain persistent through it all. I launched into the writing and publishing world completely self-taught, so the learning curve was extreme. I had plenty of chances to quit when things like feeling unqualified and times of inconsistent sales taunted me. I learned that being a business owner is not all highs, and success is the reward of those who are willing to continue working through the disappointments and failures instead of giving up. And not just working through those times, but seeing the learning opportunity within them and maximizing the moment to become better. A lot of people see success without accounting for what that person had to go through in order to get there. Behind every story of success, including mine, there is always a constant tale of persistence.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is PurposeMasters and it is a book consulting and writing services company. It is my passion to help individuals, businesses, non-profits, etc. with all forms of written communication including copywriting for businesses and coaching, editing, and formatting for authors. I’m excited about the opportunity to be a part of many people’s dreams of becoming an author and/or successful business owner. I entered this field with a gift for writing, but no prior experience by self-publishing my first book “While You Wait”. It was a very challenging process with no idea where to even begin, but wanting to get my message and story to the masses. After days and hours of studying and researching plus some trial and error, I was able to successfully do so and then go on to self-publish 4 more books. It required a lot of persistence and being diligent to constantly produce content…even when I didn’t feel like it or it didn’t look like anyone was even interested in what I had to say, There were many times I wanted to quit, but knowing lives would be impacted by my business and my brand kept me going. That journey created a desire to help others do the same without having to go through the same difficulties that I faced. I knew that I could use my knowledge and experience to help everyday people become extraordinary authors who are able to keep the rights to their books and publish on their own terms. I also knew that servicing businesses by creating compelling content for them was a service that was definitely needed in our community. No barrier should keep anyone from being a successful author and/or business owner and I am able to bridge that gap for them with my business. And in turn, I am able to give back to the next generation of women by using my business and personal successes to mentor girls through my non-profit, the I Am Purposed Foundation. Where I empower girls with teaching about confidence, purpose, and self-worth so they too can see what will happen if you pursue your dreams and never give up.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite areas of town are midtown and Downtown Houston. Both are full of culture and diversity with plenty of activities, festivals, and events all year round to keep you engaged. You can do a bar crawl, or get a taste of the city at restaurants that feature every type of food you can imagine from soul food to Mexican food, and more. Miller Theater, Discovery Green and the Museum District are also great places that constantly feature cool things to do and places to hang out with friends while learning and immersing yourself in different cultures. During the day, check out Buffalo Bayou Park where you can either rent bikes or walk to explore the beautiful trail and view the art installations. I love the diversity that Houston has to offer, it is such a privilege to be a part of this awesome community.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mom and Dad are a huge part of my success. They both always supported the leaps of faith that I’ve taken in my dreams, career, and businesses. I’ve been blessed to have a family that believes in me and go out of their way to make sure I have exactly what I need for success. They are always the first people I tell about my ideas and not once have they discouraged me from pursuing them. In fact, they stay on me to make sure I’m always working on something! Whether it was emotional, spiritual, or financial support, they haven’t hesitated to have my back. They advertise for my businesses, garner donations for my non-profit, sell my books, come to speaking engagements, work book tables…you name it, my family does it. I absolutely couldn’t do it without them.
