We had the good fortune of connecting with Alishbah Lakhani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alishbah, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I think becoming a business owner (and the reason behind it) was actually the most important thing I’ve done as a parent.

After my twin girls (who are now 6) were born, I went back to a corporate job, which I thought was going to be the right step for me. I think for anyone who has had kids, we understand that the corporate 9-5 just no longer works for our new lives and schedules with kids. Being laid off 6 months into my role was the best thing that happened to me and forced me to find alternative work options that better fit my family.

Thanks to my husband’s encouragement and my 15+ years of experience in marketing, I started freelancing on my own. I started designing websites, creating online training courses, and doing graphic design and social media management for other entrepreneurs and small business owners. I now run a full marketing agency!

It brought me so much joy to work with people who made an impact in their communities. It was more than just work for me, it created connection, built friendships, and fed my soul. My mission in life is to empower other women to step up and believe in themselves.

At the same time as, I was able to work from home, create a flexible schedule, and bring in the finances we needed for our growing family. We now have 3 kiddos (my son is now 2!) and while it’s crazy at times, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What should our readers know about your business?
Let me start by saying nothing in life is easy. The steps themselves are pretty simple and you can know exactly what to do. But achieving it is not always easy.

I think one of my biggest challenges was (and still is!) is mastering my mindset. When I first started my business, I didn’t even know “mindset” was a thing. I was all about the work hard and hustle mentality. But when I realized that if I believed in myself, I could achieve the life of my dreams, that’s when things started to change for me.

When I realized it’s important to slow down, work smarter and not harder- and that ease and flow can be a part of my life – that’s when my belief in myself unlocked a new level and chapter for me. Don’t get me wrong, you still have to work for it, but you know it’s a journey and you’re in charge.

I say this a lot these days, you can do ANYTHING you want in your life. And as a mom of 3 kids who I want to follow their passion and to be crazy successful in life, I realize it’s something I have to embody myself. You HAVE to believe in yourself – and that’s where your mindset comes in. If you think you can, you WILL. If you think you can’t, you’ll never start. Know that all of your desires and dreams can come true, you just have to start. Even one small action will do. Just start.

What sets my apart from others is belief in my clients – I genuinely and truly believe everyone has something amazing to offer. We all have our own stories that are meant to be shared. When we share ourselves and our stories, we inspire and empower others to be better for themselves and their families. When we empower families, we empower communities, and we can truly help change the world for the better.

My goal and mission is to help my clients share their stories and make their impact through the beautiful world of marketing and creating online courses.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city has to be the Waterwall. I love being anywhere near the water, blue skies, and green grass. And with all the shopping and restaurants around, you could literally walk into any establishment and have a blast.

I love thai food and the best has to be Thaicoon in Katy. Another favorite is Local Table – seriously everything you order comes out amazing! And sushi at Keepers! I could go on and on about this topic… ha!

And of course, I could spend all day at local coffee shops. My favorite are Lava Coffee and Délices de Maurice, a little french bakery with the best chocolate croissants. Another new favorite of mine is Pan de Dios with their amazing empanadas.

A new place we visited recently with the kids was Paloma Trails, where my kids dressed up their pony’s like unicorns and went for pony rides. The owner was incredible sweet and accommodating. Highly recommend!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I have to shout out my husband – if he hadn’t encouraged me at the very beginning, none of this would have been possible.

And second, I have to shout out my business coach, Lauren Golden (The Free Mama Movement). She showed me how I can take one service and really get great at it and attract dream clients. She showed me that being a successful working mom AND being there for your kids goes hand in hand – and you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. It was the small steps and consistent action that brought me to where I am today.
