We had the good fortune of connecting with Alphonso Lloyd II and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alphonso, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Keeping a healthy balance when becoming an entrepreneur can be very challenging? For me in the beginning it was very easy keeping my balance and being able to complete things in different sectors of my life. As my business grew it definitely got challenging managing school, work, and personal life all at the same time. This is one of the reasons i found it important to take time away this summer from my brand. I wanted to focus on other things in my life and really establish an healthy balance. I feel like this time really helped me and now I’m ready and more focused than ever.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a clothing brand named Sevr (severe). What sets me apart from other is the feel when you put the clothes on and what it represents. When you’re Sevr you’re deadliest in the room, looks really do kill. I’m really excited about the future because this is relatively a new space for me and it’s allowing me to figure so much about myself. As i continue to grow as creative you can definitely expect some great merchandise and concepts that have not been seen before. One of the biggest challenges that i faced was balance. I feel like i spread myself to thin in the very beginning which threw me off. My work ethic and focus were not the same. I took a brief hiatus this summer to get my mental right and to recalibrate my focus on the main thing. Taking that time off really helped me immensely t and the fire is burning bright and hot again. A key lesson i learned is that you have to plan everything! Even the smallest details you have to be precise with your actions. I just want the world to be Sevr and to be limitless. I want my brand to be recognizable anywhere around the globe.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Washington Avenue in Downtown Houston. There are a lot of great bars like bottled blonde and Heart. These places are always fun during the weekends but we’re looking for something chill like a hookah bar then Azuza lounge is the place togo. There are plenty of places to eat over as well, my favorite in the area is Velvet taco. It’s a great place to go after a night out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely have to shoutout to my close friends and family for pushing me to work harder to reach my full potential
