We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Owen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Pasadena Little Theatre is a Non-Profit 501C all volunteer theatre that is currently producing our 71st consecutive season. We were founded by teachers and people interested in bringing live theatre to the area in 1955. We bring culture and quality entertainment to Pasadena and surrounding areas and we offer educational workshops and instruction for youth and scholarships if needed to attend.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Pasadena Little Theatre was established in 1955 to bring culture and entertainment to the Pasadena and surrounding areas. We are currently performing our 71st consecutive season which makes us the second oldest community theatre in South Texas. We have continued through the years to present quality entertainment, and we continue to have a loyal patron base. It was very difficult during the Covid Pandemic since people were not attending theatre. We provided entertainment through zoom programing and even had a several weeklong soap opera written by a board member about community theatre. We also prepared and sold BBQ brisket plates, hamburger and also fried fish plates to pay our bills when we could not offer productions.
We are still striving by keeping our finger on the pulse of the public and adapting to provide productions they want to attend. Just the mere fact that we are still open and providing entertainment after the pandemic is testament to the fact that we are the place to enjoy reasonably priced live entertainment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would make sure they were in town when Pasadena Little Theatre was performing so they could enjoy a show and also in Pasadena show them around Silver Sycamore with it’s old houses, church and saloon. Then we could venture further South and go to the Kemah Boardwalk area and also drive down to Galveston to see the beach, newer beach houses and the older homes taking time to tour the famous ones that survived the 1900 Hurricane within the city. In Houston I would hope to attend more theatre at the Hobby Center or the Alley. There are a so many wonderful restaurants in Houston, Pasadena, Kemah, Galveston to chose from we would not be hungry. I would definitely drive them around Houston so they could appreciate the vastness of the city and also enjoy our beautiful skyline. Hopefully we would have time to go to the world famous Houston zoo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our entire Board of Officers and Managers at Pasadena Little Theatre strive to work toward providing quality entertainment.
