We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Trossevin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, how do you think about risk?
Majority of my career has been a risk which has majorly impacted my life in general. Back in 2015, I was finishing up cosmetology school and got a job at my first hair salon. Things were great at first, I was learning what it was like to actually work in the salon environment and meeting other stylists who would come to be life long friends. Fast forward about 3 years and the salon we once loved, quickly turned into a place we were no longer happy. It turned into being more about how much money we would each bring in instead of doing what we love and making people feel beautiful. My amazing step dad listened to me complain about my job for long enough and finally decided to stick his neck out and invest in myself and 4 of my best stylist friends opening a new salon. We had all been in the industry for 3-5 years at this point so we knew how to do hair but we had no idea how to run a business. That’s wasn’t going to stop us. We found a location and quickly began coming up with a business plan as well as putting in hours of physical labor to get this new salon going. June 28, 2019 we opened the doors. Rise Hair Salon in Athens, Ga is one of my biggest accomplishments still to this day. But the story doesn’t end here, February of 2021 I was in Texas visiting a friend when little did I know I would meet the love of my life. We did long distance for a few months and that’s all the time we needed to know we couldn’t be apart any longer. So I decided to take probably the biggest risk of my entire life and uproot my whole life to Texas. Along with that came once again starting my business over again, except this time I would be doing it all by myself. In September of 2021, I opened the doors of Lyss Does Hair which I run out of a salon suite in Katy. My dream one day would be to grow into another multi-stylist salon but for now I’m proud of myself for all I’ve grown and overcome

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always had a creative side, just took a little while for me to figure out. I was never really good at drawing, painting or anything like that. My artistic side was something different. Hair has many forms of art, color being my favorite. There’s just something about starting off with a canvas, mixing some color and watching it change into something completely different , there’s so many different patterns and techniques. There’s countless ways to do hair and no two heads will ever look the same. Another thing about doing hair is there’s never ending education and trends are always changing so it’s never for a second boring. It’s taken me years of school, continuing education classes, learning from other stylists and so much more to get me where I am and even still I learn something new almost everyday. I’m so thankful for an industry that’s always growing and changing. Along the way there’s been victories, struggles, tears, friendships made with stylists and clients, long hours, body aches but most importantly memories that I will cherish forever. It wasn’t an easy road, opening two businesses were the hardest things I’ve had to do so far in life, but I fully believe if you want something bad enough, you can make it happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Still being slightly new to Texas, Houston specifically, I haven’t all the time to check out this whole city yet but my fiancé and I like going to Astros Game at Minute Maid Park so that would probably be on the list of things to do. We would also spend sometime at the Spoetzl Brewery, famous for their Shiner beer. Braman Winery also, I love how both the brewery and winery have nice outdoor areas and can easily be fun for the whole family. One day we might make it out to Xtreme mud park in Crosby and another day even to Galveston to check out the beach. When it comes to food, we would definitely be going to Gringos, La Tapatia, Pluckers, Yard House, Scholars & Scoundrels, Rice Box and Pump House in Victoria.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s 3 main people I want to thank, my parents, Mike and Michelle Moon. For financially backing me and showing so much love, encouragement and support through both of my salon journeys. And thank you to my amazing fiancé, Joseph Rios for always being my biggest supporter, loving me unconditionally and helping to make all of my dreams come true
