We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Garibay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor is to remember it’s your life and you can do anything you put your mind to. When I was younger I was constantly made fun of for being different and having different interests, this made me grow up self insecure about putting myself out there on social media. I have always aspired to be a content creator, I wanted to have a YouTube channel at sixteen but was scared because I knew I would get made fun of. So I waited until I was eighteen and far from that small home town to start posting on TikTok. The first few years I would just post on TIkTok for fun and I began to grow more confident with time. When I decided to start taking social media seriously about two years ago, I had my first viral video over a million views. I was so excited but what surprised me most was the people who made fun of me all those years ago were congratulating me. When that happened it was like a light bulb went off in my head, I realized it didn’t matter what anyone else thought about me or dreams I wanted to pursue. It’s important to remember that it’s your life and one day you will be glad you took a risk, despite what anyone else thought.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a Content Creator on TikTok for almost two years now and I love creating. I love filming my daily life and my favorite content to create right now is fashion, lifestyle and travel content. I started content creation when I was in college studying marketing at the University of Houston. I learned a from my classes and implemented some of those tips and tricks into my content strategy. I feel that my content has grown since I first started because I too have grown. TikTok is not what it used to be and it’s important to adapt with it while still being true to one’s self. So not only has TikTok helped give me the confidence to grow as a creator on that platform, it has also pushed me to explore other social media platforms as well. I had always been scared of YouTube because I tried it once when I was fresh out of high school and it didn’t go so well, however years later I decided to try again and have seen a huge difference on my channel. I thought I failed when my Youtube channel didn’t succeed immediately when I was eighteen, but I learned you don’t fail unless you give up entirely and I’m so grateful TikTok gave me the confidence to not give up. Now I’m working on a ton of new projects that I can’t share yet but I am so excited that they are finally coming together after being scared to put myself out there for so long.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this! My friends and family always tell me I have the best restaurant recommendations and date ideas, so here is where I would take my bestie. I would start breakfast at Little Hen, it’s this super cute Bridgerton tea party vibe that has the best breakfast and cutest picture opportunities. Next, I would take them to the Houston Galleria for some shopping and the Color Factory for some fun! Of course we would need a mid day pick-me-up so we would have to stop at Un Cafe for the best coffee in Houston. After that we would hit up The POST for the amazing skyline sunset view and some snacks at the food court. We would end the day with some mini golf at Puttshack Houston and for dinner we would eat at B&B Butchers & Restaurant for some steak and fries.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my Husband, Luis Soria. We have been together almost seven years and he’s always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. When I wanted to do something but was scared to try it alone, he would do it with me no matter how silly it was. He’s not only the best husband but also the best photographer, bodyguard, personal assistant, therapist, chief and personal driver. I’m so grateful for him and I wouldn’t be where I am today without his love and support.
