We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?

The most difficult decision I had to make was putting my business First and me Second.  Starting a business during a Pandemic is very stressful and draining . Making a decision to use your own income can seem selfish but if you want your vision to come to life you have to do what’s necessary for your Dreams. By me working a full time job, part time job and also using  the stimulus checks helped me financially with me getting things together. I had no sponsor(s) or partner(s) that could or might invest in my business , that also put a damper on things. Being  a single mother and  now a business owner and a Girl Boss changed my perspective on things. I made a commitment and I had to stick with it.  With limited resources and income I had to get small inventory from vendors, start a website, design business cards and of course pricing of my products. I was stressed out because I over spent on things when I should have had a  budget. Just a word of advice make a budget for products so that you can at least get your revenue back. Did that happen on my end?  No, not at all! Some first-time business owners have a slight struggle when opening up a business. Starting out might be slow with sales, just continue to advertise and everything will come together. I continued to post on Instagram and Facebook nonstop so that my lashes and lip-gloss would get views, slowly sales came along . I then started doing makeup application with free models. So far everything has been good. I’ve done clients for baby showers and birthday parties.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I’m currently working on my first ebook. In this ebook it will be make up videos on how to apply makeup under 20 minutes. My art is natural, I want my clients to feel comfortable with themselves in the comfort of their home. I’m an upcoming Make-up artist that is not in competition with anyone I’m here to help everyone. I have my own style and I just want my clients to feel my positive energy while I’m doing their face on a Birthday, Wedding Day or social event. I am proud that I have took this major step. I Prayed and manifested about having this opportunity. I will continue to keep pushing and never give up. I remain humble, patient and determined. I would have people all over the United States look at my website and don’t place an order. I would ask myself, what am I doing wrong? What can I do differently? Did they change their mind about supporting me or did they forget to go back to my website? I overcome challenges and I have learned along the way that everyone is not going to support you, I still continue to brainstorm and think of sales, discounts, networking, and marketing goals.

I want the world to know that my brand is unique. I am going to continue to put my name out there Beauti and the Beatz brand will be more than worldwide, we will have more networking events and also have the ability to do things for others and just because I might get a no, doesn’t mean I have to give up. It’s just a process of the business. I was able to hear Entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima at Lakewood Church (Houston, Tx), when she told us about her Story behind IT Cosmetics, it gave me chills. She said that it took her 6 years to build her brand. What was so Amazing to me is when she said, ” Pressing through the No’s, hold on to your “knowing” knowing what God said about you and “knowing” your purpose he promised for you. No matter how many times man says “No!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I would love to show my friend around Houston. I would have a list of things to do during the week we would get a massage, go to Quotes Lounge, Kamp Houston, Lost and Found. We would do a Bar bike ride and club hop. We would also visit FAO an arcade for adults. Then we would do mini go-carts, go to Galveston and walk the beach. Lastly we would check out the malls like Baybrook or Memorial City mall.
