Meet Ana Lilia Hernán Montiel

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Ana Lilia Hernán Montiel again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Ana Lilia, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Hello, thank you for the invitation again.
My name is Ana Lilia Hernán Montiel, I was born in Mexico City in 1965. Graphic Designer was my first profession and I also studied Theology for more than 25 years; currently, I’m a Specialist in Family Constellations.
A very deep crisis led me to venture into the field of family constellations in Germany with world-renowned Bert Hellinger.
I soon found out that this was what fulfilled me in all the areas that I needed to heal, and there I discovered my true vocation for service.
I am the founder of Family Constellations Houston, established since 2015. Family Constellations are not only help sessions, but a change of paradigms, a philosophy that changes the way of seeing life. In a few sessions you manage to establish a deep connection with the root of the problem; its effectiveness marks a before and after.
The sessions are based on the laws that govern family systems, laws as ironclad as those of gravity; these must be respected. They are: Acceptance, Order, Inclusion, and Balance. Everything exists for a balance and establishes an order within family systems; what emerges from it helps descendants to understand and love what was once painful. My job is to bring what was not seen and help it to heal. I am only a link in a great system at the service of life.
What makes us different?
Each constellation provides information and is responsible for reconciling us with the past; and through healing movements and phrases, we are directed towards life. We take an evolutionary leap of more love and more consciousness, to heal our system, integrating pain to transform it into internal strength. Family constellations allow us to open that field. In my experience, what makes the difference is the force of change; you cannot go back to the same, it is not possible.
the highlights of your journey to how you got to where you are today etc.
It is incredible how life changes; the first interview was in 2021, and though it’s been only 4 years, I have gone through so many changes for good. I have managed to fulfill several long-awaited dreams. Professionally, I develop therapies in a studio where the workshops are beautiful.
Another dream was to be able to study in Madrid with Brigitte Champetier de Ribes and start the homologation process, of which I am only a few months away from finishing.
I have visited 8 more countries in these 3 years; traveling is living.
I am at the age that scared me the most and now I feel that fear has given me back the strength that I feared so much; I recognize that fear is a great help, you just have to cross that line.
I am very fortunate to have everything around me, including what scares me and challenges me to be better.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
The Goods
I continue to educate myself in Madrid, Mexico City and in other cities, since my field requires a continuous education. The 2020/21 pandemic brought a very deep movement within the unattended wounds in family systems; I think we made an evolutionary leap on a global level. “Another Self,” a popular Turkish series by Netflix, also emerged, as an open and more inclusive way, for the Family Constellations to be spread as a support therapy.
In 2024, I was the organizer of the Brigitte Champetier de Ribes workshops in New York City, the first time these workshops were taught in the U.S. Brigitte Champetier de Ribes is the main continuer of the systemic philosophy developed by Bert Hellinger.
I currently teach courses to train specialists in Family Constellations, accredited under the Brigitte Champetier de Ribes Family Constellations Institute (INSCONSFA), based in Madrid, Spain.
I lead group therapy sessions in The Woodlands every Saturday, and Wednesdays in River Oaks. The healing field is always amazing and evolving; no two constellations are the same.
THE BAD ONES
During the Covid pandemic, I lost a brother and a very close friend; in a short time later, I lost a sister. It was a time of a very difficult journey, but it would prepare us for times of more inward-looking and less focused on the superficial things.
THE FUN
I travel constantly to learn from each country and culture. Last year we visited Cinque Terre, Italy; I never imagined eating so much pizza and spaghetti without gaining weight! No dish in Italy is bad, I loved every single one.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
When I remember the most difficult moments of my life, I realize that I have grown because I have stopped feeling like a victim. Feeling vulnerable is great. Accepting my dark side is accepting myself completely. The hardest thing is recognizing that I have made mistakes and that there comes a time when there is no one else to blame; that I am the only one who owns my life, and that it is time to repair the damage that I have also done. Life is about balance and thanks to my mistakes, I am here too.
I choose to fix instead to blame, I accept my responsibility with dignity and humility.
