Meet Ana Lopez | Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ana Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I learned about the cleaning business from my mother. For the last 20 years, she has worked for Harris Country Maintenance Department and cleaned houses on her spare time. At the start of the pandemic in 2020, family members were out of work and I wanted to help them by finding homes that that they could clean for income. At first it was just a way for them to find work but then our home got damaged during the Texas Freeze of 2021.
That is when I decided to start my housekeeping business on my own. Initially it was a way to get extra income for our home repairs but now, my business has changed our lives in more ways than expected. My husband and I were given the opportunity to adopt a baby boy in April of 2021. Having the extra income from my business gave us the flexibility we needed to afford the adoption.
Owning my own business was always a dream of mine. It’s not easy as I must wear many hats to keep the business running but it’s very fulfilling.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Oz Cleaning LLC is a small housekeeping business that is young but growing. There are a lot of cleaning/maid/housekeeping businesses out there but what makes my business stand out is the relationship we have with our clients. The housekeepers I work with build trust and treat each home as if it’s their own home. I also strive to always send the same housekeepers to the same homes. That way our clients know who to expect for each appointment and the housekeepers can create a routine that better fits the client.
Like any new business owner, there were some challenges and self-doubt that I had to overcome. Those challenges are lessons that have helped me grow and prepare for the future. What I am most proud of and excited about are my employees. They are the core value of my business. The biggest compliment I have received from our clients are about the housekeepers I work with. I give all the credit to them as they work hard to keep our clients happy. Here are a couple of the reviews we have received:
“Wow!! We are so incredibly happy with Oz Cleaning! We highly recommend their cleaning and even organizing services!! The team is so kind, friendly, thorough, and courteous. Their attention to detail is top notch!”
“Oz Cleaning did a very detailed and amazing cleaning for our move in! They are very professional and really take pride in what they do. I’ll definitely use them again!”
“We just had our home deep cleaned by Oz and it looks immaculate! They thought of every nook and cranny and the house is spotless! They even made little flowers out of the toilet paper, hehe. They were so easy to work with and upfront about their services. I highly recommend them for a cleaning.”
“Great job today at my home. Attention to detail and nice staff. Easy scheduling. Will be doing this regularly. Thanks again!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend/family visiting for a week, the following would be the placed I would take them: 1) Breakfast or Brunch at Snooze Heights, Waffle House, Local TexMex restaurant or home cooked meal.
2) Early afternoons: Houston zoo, Discovery Green, Downtown Aquarium, Kemah and Moody Gardens.
3) Late lunch/Early Dinner: TJ Birria y Mas, Conservatory, Barkley’s or take out.
4) Night out: 8th Wonder, Truck Yard, Braman Brands or Dry Creek Social Club.
The most fun and exciting places that I like are the Houston Zoo, Moody Gardens, Conservatory and Truck Yard. They are all family friendly and meant for both kids and adults.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a big shoutout to my family and my husband, Matthew Lopez. I would not be where I am today without his love, support and constant encouragement. I especially want to give a big shoutout to my son, Leonardo Lopez. He is the reason why I work hard to continue to grow my business.
