We had the good fortune of connecting with Anastasia Czarnick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anastasia, how do you think about risk?
Risk is a good thing because it involves change, new opportunities and unpredictable events. Everyone needs to take risks to evolve. I actually feed off risk, the unknown, I try to get the most out of life by taking chances and not looking back. I moved to NYC without knowing anyone there, I started my own business without knowing much about business, both of these risks have changed my life for the better. Just know each decision you make will have its ups and downs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been working as an interior designer for the past 10 years. In NYC I worked on high end residential properties and when I moved to Houston I started working more on hospitality properties like hotels. To be honest I feel like the path I’ve taken for my career has been fairly easy. I knew from my young teen years that I wanted to be a designer, I love watching home renovation TV shows on HGTV and realizing that was exactly what I wanted to get into.

A lesson that I have learned and am constantly reminding myself of is we all have our own path and do not compare yourself to others. When I was 6 months into my business I caught myself continuing to be envious of companies that looked more successful than my business. The thing was that the business I was admiring started their company 10+ years ago, so I was comparing my baby company to an established business. Which is a mismatch to compare, appreciate where you are at so you can appreciate your growth in 10 years.
My brand strives to bring recognition to makers around the world. The craft of how things are made is intriguing to me and usually passed down from generations.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a good question, I haven’t been in Houston that long so I typically would ask coworkers or friends for advice on this. However, I have found a few places that I love and would recommend: Dish Society, Traveler’s Table, Avant Garden (Poetry Night), Montrose area and Thrifting Spots.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All Houston small businesses, the community of small businesses in Houston is incredible. They do not compete with each other, they offer advice and counsel. Which was huge for me since one I was fairly new to the Houston/Texas area and also new to being a business owner. I truly appreciate everyone I have come in contact with through this journey that has helped grow my business.
