We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been tidy and particular about space. Even as a child maintaining a certain level of order in my space was secondary to me. At some point the demands of being a mom, working full, life’s busyness overall threw off the natural order I thrive on at home.
With an already busy life I was burned out from what felt like an endless cycle of “straighten up” around the house. One day instead of cleaning I decided to get rid of stuff and started organizing. It was a process that took some time, in the end going through my home and being intentional about organization systems brought efficiency to lifestyle , it contributed to building healthier habits/routines at home, it made such a difference.

I spent about 2 years researching the market, building a portfolio, and building vision for my brand. Everything started to fall where it needs to be from there.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Situate Your Space is a luxury professional organizing and space styling company. I help busy people create high functioning spaces using thoughtful solutions and lasting organization systems.

It is not easy, on no day. When we are hired to go in and organize a client the relief of renewed space for them is almost always felt, that joy can’t be outweighed with the challenging days.

As we are closing in on our first successful year in business, I can say Situate Your Space truly started from a place of passion and desperation. I launched business during the pandemic and that was terrifying. The growth and response I have received in only a year lets me know that I am in the right lane, keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is vibrant in arts, architect, cultural influences, history, music, food. As a New Orleans native a city that embodies the types of influences I grew up on such a large, diverse scale means everything.

I’m sure majority of our activities would include dining, shopping and exploring.

Houston definitely does not hold back on the food scene. With so many new and trendy food/restaurants concepts popping up in Houston my favorites and must try list is a mile long. We’d definitely include Oysters, brunch and cocktails at State of Grace, friends and sushi just make sense Kata Robota and Edojin are my favorite , The Rouxpour, Sweet Paris Creperie, Xochi, Niko Nikos, Lucilles, Brennans, Cleburne’s Cafeterie my list of amazing food spots in this city does not end.

Of course its not a good time if we don’t get some retail therapy. A day of shopping in River Oaks District, The Galleria, the Woodlands, Highland Village, Vintage Park I think are all great shopping experiences for visitors.

Using a lazy day to get out and explore-have lunch in some of the amazing areas Houston has to offer is always both pleasurable and rewarding. Go to places to areas and neighborhood to would take them to explore might include:
The Heights, EaDo (East Downtown), Montrose, West University, Midtown, Upper Kirby, River Oaks, Memorial

Depending on the time of year: I’d definitely invite an out of town friend to the rodeo cookoff!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course! I have to shoutout God first. I cannot express how grateful I am to have been chosen for this journey. My kids because (those little tornadoes they magically create definitely provoked this journey). Thank you to the absolute best clients who continue to trust me to come into their homes and deliver a transformative service. Sending my love and warmest thank you to family/friends for your continued encouragement. Lastly, thank you to all the other amazing organizers out there. I am so grateful to be in position to share this space with so many supportive and inspiring women and men everyday.
