Meet Andres Biel | Designer / Creative Director and Fashion Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andres Biel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andres, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because it was the one place where I felt free to be my full self. Growing up, I always felt drawn to art and pop culture-it was my escape and my outlet. But fashion? That became my language. It allowed me to take everything I felt-pain, joy, identity, transformation-and express it without needing to say a word. I didn’t take the traditional route into this industry, but I knew I had something to say and a vision to bring to life. Choosing an artistic path wasn’t just about chasing a dream-it was about answering a calling. Being a designer allows me to turn my lived experiences into something visual, powerful, and healing. It’s not just a career-it’s a purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is rooted in storytelling. Every piece I create is a reflection of my journey—where I’ve been, what I’ve survived, and the world I dream of building. What sets me apart is that I don’t just design clothing; I design experiences. My brand, IFLYUNIVERSE, is a high-end streetwear line that fuses raw emotion, elevated craftsmanship, and bold individuality. I bring together unfiltered street energy with refined construction techniques to create fashion that speaks to people who want to be seen, heard, and felt.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come despite the odds. I’m a self-taught designer. I didn’t have the traditional path—I dropped out of High school, I was rejected from fashion school, so I taught myself how to sew through YouTube and took local classes at Mood Fabrics. I worked with master tailors, competed in designer showcases, and turned pain into purpose. Winning the Emerging Designer Award at Harlem Fashion Week was one of those full-circle moments that reminded me: I’m exactly where I need to be.
It wasn’t easy. There were moments I questioned everything—my worth, my talent, my future. But I kept showing up, even when it hurt. I leaned on my passion, my faith, and the community around me. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that your journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. You define your success. You write your story.
What I want the world to know is that IFLYUNIVERSE isn’t just a brand—it’s a movement. It’s about rising from nothing and creating something beautiful. It’s about the kid who never felt seen, finally being recognized. Through my work, I want to inspire others to believe in their own light—even when the world tells them to dim it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, they’d already know—summer is the best time to come see me. I’d take them back to where I grew up, walking them down my memory lane so they could feel like more than just a best friend—more like family. We’d spend time in my favorite parks by the water—like the East River, Sunset Park, Bush Terminal Park, and the Seaport. Each spot has its own vibe and holds a piece of my story.
Of course, we’d be eating everything. I love food, so every day would be a new foodie adventure—brunch one day, Chinese food in Chinatown the next, and my favorite breakfast spot, Clinton Street Baking Co. We’d be living our best foodie lives.
We’d hit the beaches too—from Brighton to the Rockaways, soaking up the sun, having those chill, carefree, soul-cleansing moments. The kind where laughter is loud, the vibes are effortless, and every now and then, we’d even shed a few soul-to-soul tears. That would be my ideal “best friendcation”—authentic, spontaneous, and unforgettable.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my partner, Jonathan, who has been by my side since day one. He’s seen me at my lowest—when I felt like I had nothing left—and never once let go of my hand. He stayed, believed in me, and witnessed how I fought to rise every time life tried to knock me down. He’s been there since the birth of our brand, IFLYUNIVERSE, and chose to believe in the vision I held for our future. Jonathan didn’t just support me—he became part of the foundation. He continues to show up with unwavering love and dedication, helping to build something bigger than both of us. Together, we’re not only elevating a brand—we’re building a legacy
