We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be known as a hard working individual who made it out of Alief and was able to put his people on and give back to his hometown. My new record label RMP Records is more than just a home for artist. It’s also a charity. I have so many things planned and in the works that I want to do, not only for my producing and label owning careers but for the community as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go by AndyD Productions. I’m a local Houston Trap/R&B producer out of Alief, Texas. I’ve been taking producing seriously for about a year and a half now and I feel like my music has already set me apart from most producers. I make beats to my own style and not anyone else’s. When you hear my tag play, you know that the beat finna be hard.
I am also owner of RMP Records, the newest record label coming in early 2022. I’m currently looking at artist to add to my roster and begin managing and potentially signing. This year will be a definite rise for RMP Records, and I’m putting my all into making sure of that.
I’m still not far into my career yet. I feel like I’m still getting warmed up. It definitely wasn’t easy getting to where I’m at already. Dedicating countless hours to something that could always end horribly wrong is never an easy thing to do. But I know that my ideas have potential and with the people I have around me, I can see these ideas through.
I’ve learned a lot in this past year, especially about the music business. I’ve learned to never get your hopes up because people can always tell you one thing and do another immediately after. I’ve learned that if you want something done, you may have to just go ahead and do it yourself. I’ve also learned that to run a successful business you got to be knowledgeable or know knowledgeable people in the game who you can trust that could advise you on certain things you may be unsure of.
I want my entire brand, as a producer and label owner, to be seen as inspiration for the future generations. I want to prove that it don’t matter where you come from, with hard work you can make it anywhere. Ultimately, RMP will be known as a home full of creatives, producers and artists, in addition to being an outlet to give back to the community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I haven’t been going out much, especially since covid. But my favorite spot I like to go to vibe is my local park. There, I’m able to think clearly or just enjoy myself. I suggest everyone who comes to the city to not only have fun, because I know there’s a lot of stuff to do here, but to also find something relaxing to do, and that’s what the park is for me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to two people who believed in me the most. My mentor, Kalani, and my sister in-law, Jessica. These two helped me out with opportunities and new connections I never thought I could get alone. They seen something in my work and took me seriously since the very beginning. And for that I’m forever grateful.
