Meet Angel Caban: President, Match Point Recruiting Solutions

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Caban and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I retired from playing volleyball, I was looking for an opportunity to give back to the game that gave me so much. I feel the responsibility to somehow create opportunities for young athletes to learn and develop their skills. I started coaching at club level and immediately noticed areas where I can expand my scope and shared the experiences and knowledge, I gained from playing with the best players in the world, that is the beginning of Match Point Volleyball. We are laser focus strictly on development and creating opportunities for athletes that want to play at the next level while earning a college degree.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Match Point Volleyball is a unique combination of brands with the mission to create opportunities and develop volleyball players. We offer college recruiting solutions to assist players and families throughout the college recruiting journey. In addition to recruiting solutions, we offer a platform of individualize developmental programs for athletes at any age, at any level. We are extremely passionate about volleyball. I played professionally for over 10 years and had the honor to play with some of the best players and coaches in the history of the game and I want to share those experiences and pass that knowledge with our athletes. We thrive to build strong relationships with each athlete we work with. These relationships help us understand how each athlete learns and communicates and how we can motivate them to enjoy the experience while improving their skills. We are immensely proud to see how our athletes improve and achieve their potential. Knowing that we are positively impacting a life and how we can make a difference is what drive us to achieve excellence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston’s cultural diversity is unbelievable, there is something for everyone. The food in Houston is amazing and there are so many choices to choose from. From fine dining to food trucks Houston has something for every person. Our city offers so many things from professional sports teams, Houston Rodeo, Museums, The Zoo, The Space Center, Galveston, numerous of places for outdoors activities, music, etc. This is a great city. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where to start… My mother Sofia, that taught me to serve others with passion. She dedicated her life to serve others and taught me the spirit of service and how to find joy when you touch someone’s life. My cousin Rafael, my role model, a person that has always been there for me. He taught me persistence and without saying much he pushed me to be better. He introduced me to volleyball and created my path. Victor Cruz, my first professional volleyball coach and life mentor. A person that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to play professionally when I was in high school. The person that taught me how to respect the game of volleyball and to always think team first. My wife Amneris for her unconditional patience, love and support, I will not be here without her. And to my boys Adriel and Alexavier for your love and for inspiring me.
