We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I was in middle school, I thought about different careers that I could pursue within the fields of Media. My first thought was being a producer for television. I attended McKinley Technology High School to join their STEM program, where media was in the line of digital production. I fell in love with Digital Media every since. While I was at McKinley, I took classes like Web Design, 3D Modeling, Yearbook, and Digital Media courses. I fell in love with Adobe Software and I decided to pursue a creative career in College at Delaware State University.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Graphic Designer who specializes in Website Development, Standard E-Flyers, Business Card Design, Thank You Card Designs, Billboard designs, etc. I overcame many challenges to be where I am today, I struggled my first couple of months to attract my audience of people, however, after learning about demographics and who I wanted to initially work with, I overcame. It wasn’t an easy road to follow, but I learned and overcame it. My business name is AngelicGraphics. The name “Angelic” comes from the foundation of the owner. My name is Angel, I wanted my brand to speak through the name and be different from other brands. AngelicGraphics is a brand that speaks through creativity. The story behind AngelicGraphics was founded in my college dorm after creating an interesting project for my PR class. I had to create a campaign and create the graphics for the campaign as well. I loved everything about the billboard so I decided to invest in myself and watch my work payoff! One lesson I learned is to never give up, it’s very important to never give up. There are times that I want to give up on everything, however, I have something to prove to myself and my community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in Washington, DC are the museums and escape rooms! I’m a very artistic person, I loved art. I’ve always had an eye for art. Another place that I would love to go to is Karaoke Bar. Fun fact about me: I love to sing. What excited me the most is music! Music to me is an art as well. The sound, the technique, the voice, the artist are a form of art to me. I would recommend a Poetry Slam or Concert at City Winery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to my mother and boyfriend! The strongest woman I know. My mom loves the field of Digital Media with the guidance and pushes to strive for success, my mom told me to never give up! If it wasn’t for my mother, I wouldn’t be here today. With the love and support of my mother and my boyfriend, I’m continuing to learn what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. I also want to shout out my support system, a group of friends dear to my heart, my graphic designer sisters! They keep me going every day.
