Meet Angel Reyes

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
There’s risk in everything you do; you take a risk when you get in the car every morning to head to the office. The trick is taking smarter risks with less to lose and higher upside. That’s how I’ve built my name over the last 30 years and how we continue to run our firm today.
We’re no strangers to risk—we went away from all legacy media marketing almost a decade ago in favor of an all-digital strategy. It was a huge gamble moving away from the large audiences in these spaces, but the upside is our marketing machine is significantly more efficient.
As a firm, we file over a thousand lawsuits every month. Even though our attorneys are laser-focused and great at what they do, nobody wins them all. Every time we take a case before a jury, there’s a risk we lose. However, we prepare, do our due diligence, and we go to bat for our clients from the most strategic point possible.
Our business and my career have been based around that principle of taking risks but approaching them thoughtfully. Things don’t always work out, but when they do, you can do some pretty incredible things.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. No law practice ever is. You win some cases, and you lose others. The path to where we are today as a firm has been demanding: long hours, high stakes, and a lot of pressure. It takes time to build trust and a reputation and earn the trust of your community.
However, every time someone came to us looking for help and every time we were able to make their situation a little better by standing up for them reminded me of why I do this and why our mission as a firm is so important. My goal is to be a voice for people who need someone who can fight in their corner.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being from Dallas, we would more than likely start up here in North Texas. DFW is growing like crazy, and there’s no shortage of places to see and things to do. Did you know that Michelangelo’s first painting is housed at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth?
As far as food to eat, Texas is famous for barbecue, so that’s on the menu. Terry Black’s Barbecue in Deep Ellum does some fantastic brisket, and their operating hours make it easy to go for dinner.
However, it’s also hard to pass up what Houston has to offer. Being able to see NASA is a pretty cool opportunity to put some context to the famous Apollo 13 mission quote “Houston, we have a problem.” As far as food, Texas is also famous for Tex-Mex. Houston has a fantastic Tex-Mex restaurant called Candente that I’m fond of. Great birria!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I grew up in Puerto Rico and moved to Kansas City in the 1970s. However, even after moving, Puerto Rico always felt like home, and has always held a special place in my heart. During summers, I would go back to the island and work construction, renewing my Spanish language skills.
It was hard work, but that work kept me grounded in where I came from. It gave me a connection to the people and the stories that helped raise me, and gave me perspective. During those summer trips, I saw how easily someone who doesn’t speak English can be overlooked by the justice system, simply because they can’t fully advocate for themselves. I experienced similar feelings when I first moved to Kansas City—other kids weren’t always kind to the new boy named Angel Reyes.
That purpose is what motivated me to enter law and ultimately to go into personal injury work. It’s why my firm takes so much pride in being a bilingual firm that can serve clients in both English and Spanish. We get to be that voice and that advocate for those who deserve better than their current situation.
So I’m happy to give my shoutout to the people of Puerto Rico. Thank you for letting me be a bridge between our homes and for showing how to serve those who need a voice the most.
