We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela C Ģennusa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela C, what role has risk played in your life or career?
How do I think about risk? I don’t put a whole lot of thought into it actually. I am a very spur of the moment person and more impulsive than most I tend to act first and think later. I use this to my advantage being an art is because for me it difficult to sit down and preplan whatever I want to create. Usually I just decide I want to start a new piece and do it and watch as it evolves over days/weeks/months.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I paint as a form of therapy and a healthy outlet for my emotions, experiences, and life events. My choices of paint color, canvas size, and technique are linked to various emotions or experiences I am currently encountering. All my pieces have a very personal connection to me and what I was experiencing at the time. By nature, I am giving person. There is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling to me to than to pass on to others so they may create their own interpretations, escape, and experience emotions brought out by my work. I work with fluid acrylic painting because it gives me the opportunity to get lost in a painting. I see new things in my pieces every time I look at them and get lost in them. My goal is for others to find this easy to do in my pieces as well. I to prefer to do bigger pieces on the floor and even smaller ones on a short-legged table closer to floor as I can use all the space around me to immerse myself into the painting. On the floor I am more at ease. I feel nearer, more part of the painting since this way I can walk around it, work from the four sides, and literally be in the painting.” Jackson Pollack

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Technically it is not in Houston but it is less than an hour away and where I spend the largest amount of time. I am talking about Galveston Island. I love the beach it brings me back to a place where I am able to focus, am calm, relaxed, have the ability to think clearly, an most importantly centers me reminding me to appreciate the simple things in life, mother nature, and that we are surrounded by beauty it is in everything you just have to be open to seeing it in places you may least expect.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parent’s and their continuous support of me and my hundreds of crazy ideas for if it were not for both of them I have absolutely no idea what my life would have turned out like and even though neither one are with us anymore I have 2 guardian angels that never leave my side.
