We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Castillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, how do you think about risk?
I am absolutely terrified when it comes to risks, and I think the main reason is because the risk of failing. I learned in college, that the higher the risk, the higher the return….but I’ve also learned as an adult, that you can’t learn without failure, so let’s just say, I’m still learning to become more of a risk taker.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m so proud of the fact that GOD placed me down the path that HE desired. The reason I say that is because when I first graduated it was so hard for me to start my career, I saw my friends gain employment within their field, while I worked for temp agencies. Although I was happy for my friends, I was trying to figure out when GOD was going to place me where I thought I needed to be.

During that wait, I met coworkers that have become close friends and learned some value lessons within the workplace. When HE felt I was ready, he transitioned me into my career field of accounting. Though my path was not easy, and some days I second guessed my decisions, I do not regret starting from the bottom and working my way up to where I currently am.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s so crazy because I have friends from out of town that come to visit Houston often and there are times where I don’t even know where to start. Houston has definitely evolved within the past few years, we have so much to offer from food, entertainment and nightlife. I’m a chill type of person so I’d definitely take my friends out to new coffee shops, black owned restaurants and lounges.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d really like to shout out my siblings Amanda and Biscuit, and my close friend Kenyata. They are always supporting and bringing new ideas for my business. Whether it is being attendance at pop up shops, purchasing merchandize or just giving me advice, none of it has been taken for granted.
