We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelica Alvarado- De Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angelica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My Journey into business started with Cosmetology. I went to college for it, but after graduating I worked in the clerical field for many years. Over time I felt myself getting burnt out and ultimately decided I wanted to return to my roots in the beauty industry, which lead me to further my education into lash artistry. A year and a half later, I still have so much love and passion for lashing and continue to work on perfecting my craft.

My floral business came from a more personal place. After the loss of my Beloved fur baby Juke, I was given a floral arrangement that truly brightened my day for just a second in a time that was so dark. That gift reminded me how powerful flowers can be – They bring joy, comfort and meaning in all kinds of situations. I’ve always loved flowers in any occasion, so I turned my love into a new venture that allows me to bring beauty and brightens peoples day.

Both businesses come from different life experiences, but share the same heart : creating something meaningful that brings joy, comfort and beauty to others while giving me the chance to express my creativity and build something of my own.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is all about creating experiences that bring joy and confidence in others. With my lash business, my favorite moment is seeing a clients face light up when they look in the mirror and feel beautiful. With my floral business, the bloom bar adds something special to celebrations while giving people a piece of joy to take home.

The journey hasn’t been easy, but taking risk and betting on myself has been the best decision I’ve made. What sets me apart is that both businesses come from sheer passion and determination. They’re not just services, they’re ways I connect with people and create meaningful memories.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d want to show them the diversity Houston has to offer. We’d probably start the day with brunch at Annabelle Brasserie, which offers modern French cuisine. After brunch, we would head over to Montrose for some thrifting at unique spots like Leopard Lounge and Pavement. Later, we’d grab a coffee at Della Coffee and maybe head to Foelber Pottery Gallery and Studios if there were classes available that day. Finally we would finish the day off at one of my favorite restaurants, Juliet. Their lobster is the best I’ve ever had in my life. It would be the perfect mix of food, shopping and activities in Houston.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shout out goes to my husband for always believing & supporting my dreams no matter how big or small. I also have to include my pups Penni Lynn, Benni & Juke – I always like to make the joke that I work hard so my dogs can have a better life. My Mom has been a huge help with my bloom bar business whenever I need an extra hand. My Bestie also deserves credit – she’s actually the person who sent me the floral arrangement that sparked the Bloom Bar idea. Last but not least, I’d like to thank my clients that took a chance on me as a beginner Lash Artist and have stuck with me throughout my journey. Their trust means the world to me.
