We had the good fortune of connecting with Anika & Rithika Ravishankar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anika & Rithika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When we started hungriehoney, we never thought it would become the business it is today. We started it just for fun, to showcase to the world our food adventures around Texas and the places we visit. It was just a new way to connect with our friends, families, and followers while showing them new spots and cool products along the way. As we started gaining more popularity, we began to work with bigger companies and businesses and were able to work on promotions, collaborations, giveaways, sponsorships, tastings, and so much more that helped bloom this page into a business on its own. It required schedules, meetings, marketing help, and more that made it into a smooth functioning business that is still so fun to do every day in our lives! Handling this business on our own gives us so much more flexibility to manage our own tasks the way we prefer them, and is ultimately the reason how hungriehoney got where it is today as a business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
hungriehoney is a food blog page located on Instagram and it showcases foods from different cultures and cuisines. It is mainly based in Texas, but we also incorporate foods from vacation spots. Hungriehoney sets apart from other food pages because not only is it a 100% vegetarian food blog that has meals, desserts, and drinks recommendations but also focuses on connecting with the audience and incorporating their suggestions and help to make it an interactive and fun space and hub for people to be on! Getting to where we are right now was definitely not easy. In the beginning, it was hard to constantly come up with new content, and our audience was lacking and not that involved. With baby steps, we began to implement different communication and marketing strategies to boost our page, and we began to start connecting better with our followers and giving more back to them, like giveaways for example. It was definitely challenging, but we took our time and worked as a team to build a community around our page and bring it to the best quality it could be. The most important lesson we learnt through this journey is that patience is everything and to make decisions wisely. Sleepless nights and hard work brought the page to where it is, and doing what we thought was best for it rather than doing what everyone is doing is what makes us stand apart from others. Through our story, we hope to inspire other young rising businessmen or businesswoman and show them that putting yourself out there is worth it and success can come from a long journey. We hope to also bring awareness to vegetarian food and break the facade that vegetarian food isn’t appealing or appetizing, or is restricting and show all the unique and amazing features to it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely take them to our favorite hang out spots, like Katy Asian town, Rice Village, Montrose, or Town Center! Our favorite food spots are in these places. For lunch, we would take them to Sweetgreen, the best salad place ever. There are amazing dinner spots in Katy Asian town, like Yelo and Square root Poke, and for dessert we would finish off at Jeni’s Ice creams! We also love our boba, so we would definitely hit up Teatop or Ding Tea to get refreshed.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person that deserves the biggest shoutout and recognition is definitely our mom, Priya. She is a home chef herself and her biggest passion is cooking hearty meals with traditional tastes and giving an enjoyable experience to anyone who tries her food. Hands down, we can say we got our love for food from her! We began to appreciate food so much from looking at her and this entire page was started because of her inspiration.
