We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anita, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I live by “no risk, no reward”. With music and entertainment, it is almost required to take leaps of faith and always bet on yourself. Because if you don’t who will? I used to overthink next steps with my music, rollouts, music videos, and even lyrics. I decided to stop giving myself time to think and act on things before I could even talk myself out of it! I’d rather someone else tell me no, than for ME to tell myself no before even trying.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Being a new artist is exciting and brings on a pressure that keeps me on my toes. I am constantly evolving as I go and the best thing I can be is a student learning to master my craft. It keeps me humble, hungry, and looking to improve every chance that I get. That is what makes me stand out as a creative. My goal is to build my legacy from the beginning. I make sure that everything I create right now is timeless and something I will be proud of when I make it big and look back. I want to be impressed by my own work and not wish I tried harder, so every time I have an opportunity to be extra and go above and beyond… I take it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely focus on food first! I would have to take them to Lost & Found because they have a great menu but also good drinks. Especially that shrimp and crawfish dip (thank me later). Food trucks are great and seafood is a must, so we can go get some crawfish and crab legs too. For fun, going to Top Golf is always cool or walking around City Centre. The Galleria is a non-negotiable, everyone has to experience it at least once. Then I’d take them driving around to see different Houston attractions like the Toyota Center, Minute Maid, the graffiti wall, and the museum district. To end the week before they go back home we have to go to Sunday Funday and enjoy a brunch spot with good music, good food, and bottomless mimosas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family! My mom, dad, and my brother have inspired every single aspect of who I am and who I am trying to be. My love for music came from my dad and my brother. My dad shows me how good music can make you feel . My brother encouraged me to write music and to be well versed in all genres and aspects of artistry. My mom taught me that nothing is impossible with God. Their support in everything I do gives me the confidence and the faith to pursue my dreams.
