We had the good fortune of connecting with Aries Cuevas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aries, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Before starting Aries Beauty, I knew I wanted to start something that would allow me to stay home and raise my daughter. I wanted to be my own boss so that I’m able to set my own schedule. If I needed time off I didn’t have to “ask” for permission. I knew I wanted to do something in the beauty industry since it’s something I’ve always be into. I wanted to stay out of the ordinary corporate America jobs but I wasn’t sure on what to take on at first. Initially, it started with photography, although I am good at it, it wasn’t something I looked forward to doing. It was more of a hobby and I really wanted something I could wake up and be excited about. In the midst of doing research, reading books and watching YouTube videos I found my love for eyelash extensions. It then turned into my passion as I started Seeing more clients through the year.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everyone is unique in their own way. I believe everyone has something different that we can all learn from. What sets me apart is how I make a connection with my clients. Making sure they feel comfortable with me is a big deal for me because essentially, that’s what is going to bring them back. I try to keep my social media on a positive side. I try to lift my clients/followers with positive words and affirmations in hopes to give them that little push to go out there and not be afraid to do something that makes them happy. I am where i am now professionally, because I feel like I put in the work, The research, and the continued education so that I’m knowledgeable in this lash industry. It hasn’t been easy, but with perseverance and practice it’s possible. A huge lesson I’ve learned from all of this is, patience! Something I’m still working on. I want the world to know that if I can start something from scratch, anyone can. If you’re willing to put in your time, your dedication, and your heart into something it will flourish in ways you can’t imagine. I want my brand to be known as a positive influence to the young women out there, to let them know that We don’t have to settle, we can dream big but we have to make sure we’re willing to put in the hard work because dreams don’t work when you just wish for them.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My favorite spots in Houston would have to be downtown or the midtown area but there are other great places for example Memorial City and even The Woodlands. Brunch would take place at the Black Walnut because mimosas! Houston is filled with so many great Mexican restaurants which is my favorite. But also we can’t knock RA sushi for a night out. Houston also has many dog parks where you can take your dog out to play with other dogs or swim. The Woodlands has a spot where you can hang out in their garden area. You can take your kids, if you have any and it’s surrounded by restaurants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe God puts certain things in our hearts and it’s up to us to take it and run with it or simply do nothing about it. I thank God simply because through Him I have the strength to keep doing what Im doing now. Of course, my husband for encouraging me and reminding me how far I’ve come in such a short amount of time. My beautiful clients, my regulars, without their support I don’t think Aries Beauty would still be up and running. I’m truly blessed for my clientele. My family members more so, cousins, they were the first ones to trust me with their lashes and I will forever be grateful for that.
