We had the good fortune of connecting with Arthur Patton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arthur, how do you think about risk?
Risk-taking is a very important part of life, by taking actions which might have unpleasant or undesirable results. For me every day life can be a risk as a black men, the act or fact of doing something that involves potential danger or risk in order to achieve a goal. The seen & unseen dangers of day to day or life goals can be hard but the sweet victory of reaching the top of the hill is so sweet!!!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Coach A.P. and I am the Director & Choreographer for Code Red Pro Dance Team. I have years of professional dance & entertainment experience, oversee all of Code Red’s appearance & performances in the Houston community. As the director, I was the creator of PRO Sports Dance Class at one of the top dance studios on Thursday nights at 8pm in Houston (Metropolitan Dance Company 2808 Caroline (at Dennis) Houston, TX 77004). While in college I was a Mascot/Cheerleader Captain, Coral Singer, Bearcat Band member, & Pres. of Students of Praise Choir @ Lon Morris College. A Houston native, I was once a member of the best dance team in the WNBA, Houston Comets Team-NRG Dance Team for 3 seasons. During this time as a dancer with Houston Comets, I served as an appearance captain while splitting time as a professional instructor for Universal Cheer Association (UCA), all across the Southwest & West Coast United States for over 15 years, and danced for the American Hockey League Houston Aeros for one season. I have always been very active in many ways as a Mascot/Cheerleader; 3 years Texas Southern University, First TSU Male Dance Company member. I have coached with Diversified Youth Services (DYS) Houston company Cheerleader & Dance Instructor 5 years & as well coached competitive cheer/dance teams winning 1st place. These experiences have given me a vast knowledge of the entertainment industry which I have used in taking Code Red to the next level with show-stopping performances and high energy choreography. Aside from dance and cheer, I attended the Champion School of Real Estate in 2015 and currently work at Sapphire Realty as a Real Estate Agent. My variety of interests and ability to work with people from all walks of life enables me to have the passion to strive for excellence within my career and hobbies. What I want the world to know about me is don’t let the plus size & baby face fool you I am a power house with what ever I do!!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to CITY CENTRE, where I work at Life Time Athletic as the Aquatics Supervisor. City Centre is a one stop shop with great places to shop, eat, & drink with live entertainment, as well Memorial City Mall is right next door!!! I have met/worked with so many different people from all over the world teaching swim & water fitness. City Centre has interesting/exciting people, places, & with me having a membership/working at Life Time which allows me to have access to guest passes! Now I can’t tell you my secret spot I would take my best friend to. I have to keep some things to myself LOL!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give thanks to my Mother (Nina) & Father (Terry) for all the support, love, and encouragement even when they did not always understand my vision. This is who I want to dedicate my shout out to! My All-Star Code Red Dance Team members also deserve a little credit and recognition in my story. This includes J-Ro, Shotyme, Blue, a whole lot more who I can’t name them all & Captains Moe & Jiffy! As well, all the drama queens/kings who were on the team, because the Hot Mess/Bad Apples help me grow as a coach.
