We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Sheppard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, how do you define success?
That’s a good question. I believe success is defined by the beholder, similar to beauty. I’ve noticed in terms of success alot of times its associated with money or possessions, which can be a perk but I don’t think its limited to just that. When I think of success I associate it with accomplishment, I think of being proud of achieving a goal or endeavor. I think success is determined by the individual. Anything that has good results or fulfills its purpose is success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I’m most proud of adding candles to Chic Haven. Initially I started with beaded fashion bracelets that I handmade and included other custom made items such as baby wipe cases and wreaths. In addition to that I also created party decor. I have since redirected my focus strictly on candles and jewelry/accessories. I’m not exactly where I want to be professionally, I have so many ideas! but its not easy, I’ve had several challenges, recently I’ve battled cancer, endured chemo & radiation treatments. I didn’t give any attention to Chic Haven for over a year. What I’ve learned is you have to take everything moment to moment. Just never give up. What I would like people to take away is that Chic Haven is authentic and genuine. It is about finding a escape for all things creative, fashionable and stylish.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely would have brunch at Another Broken Egg or The Breakfast Klub. Dine for Dinner at Trulucks or Steak 48. Check out some fashion trucks, shops in the village, swing by The Vintage, Have lunch in City Centre and thift shop around town looking for little treasures. GreenStreet, see what local markets are hosting events. I love vendor booths, independent projects. Arts by Aaron always host great events. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my family, they encourage and inspire me. Also, my friends who support and encourage all of my creative endeavors.
