We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracey Shingledecker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracey, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
We strive to give the customer the best possible experience in our shop. From telling the stories behind how we acquired an antique to helping them create a custom made peice. We hear from so many customers that they love to shop with us because we make them feel at home.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kelly and I started the business on a whim after 2 personal buying trips to Europe. We fell in love with hunt of antiques so much that when our kids were in upper school and didn’t need us around as much we decided to form 2 Lucy’s. The name is a play on Lucille Balls character in I LOVE LUCY. Our personalities are much more aligned with Lucy than with Ethel! We started going to France 2 times a year and sold our good in antique malls. After about 6 years we were approached to form Back Row Home with 2 other antique dealers. Today the company is now survived by 2 Lucy’s but our store name remains Back Row Home. Back Row Home has now expanded to 16,000 Sq. Ft. and represents 5 bedding lines, 4 rug lines, tabletop, candles, cards, floral, gifts, jewelry and baby. I believe what sets us apart is that our shop is truly a one of kind shopping destination. With the vast selection of European antiques to the newly created furniture to home decor and gifts everyone could find something at Back Row Home. We are excited every time a new container arrives and after we come back from furniture markets. The shop has ever changing inventory so it is always evolving.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our families deserve so much credit in our success. We try to maintain a good balance between the shop and our personal lives and it can sometimes be a little challenging. From the beginning when our kids were in school, then off to college, to marriages and now babies we really do put an emphasis on family. We have been so blessed to have a second family in our associates at Back Row Home. They care as much about the shop as we do and it does allow us to keep a good balance between work and family.
