We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Simien and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
With being a creative, I can just about do anything I want to do. I’m a multitalented creative. Art is one of my main things, but I also offer makeup services, I now do wardrobe styling and here and there I may create content for others. The possibilities are endless for me in this field. I don’t have to put myself in a box and I love that!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d have to say that sometimes my art represents the different moods and phases I’m in in life and other times there’s no message at all. It’s purely aesthetics. Either way, my pieces are always colorful and abstract. It took me a while to figure out that art is something I should lean into. Throughout my life I’ve always sketched here and there and I love admiring the art of others but to fully create art wasn’t something that peaked my interest as making it a career. I first went through many hobbies, in which I still enjoy some of them from time to time, which I thought would be great career choices for me. I believe that was my only challenge. Not knowing what path to take, but when I started creating art I knew this was something I could definitely see myself taking seriously. I want the world to recognize me through my art because I leave a piece of myself on every canvas as cheesy as that may sound lol.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so many spots in Houston that I would take them to. Especially food spots. My current place to visit is local foods. I love a good farm to table joint. Also Tiny Boxwoods for brunch which is also a farm to table spot.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Latonya with Crystal Custom Wear and Flavie with Shop Vire.
