We had the good fortune of connecting with Beata Bober-Gorzkowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Beata, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am laughing as I read this question and thinking of the answer.  The reason why is because my eighth-grade art teacher once told me, “Beata, focus your energy somewhere else as you do not have one artistic bone in your body”.   What my art teacher said was the end of me trying to go into arts and crafts.  It was not until years later when unfortunately, I had to be on my own and become very creative of how to stretch a dollar and make it go a long way. Without thinking about what my art teacher said, I got into flipping furniture.  I would paint and restore furniture.  Eventually, I gain some confidence to sell my pieces to help me and my sons get through a tough time. Since then, I decided to try pretty much every and any craft and art that there is. I was always very passionate about art and always wanted to prove myself that I can do it. Although I have not succeeded in many of the arts and crafts, I have tried, I ultimately found my biggest passion which is my current business. My business is fine and functional resin artwork. It is funny how life unravels and how we may have to go through things before we find the right path. Now it feels good and I could prove my teacher wrong. I believe that if you love what you do you never work a day in your life

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Resin art – Great combination of natural healing stones and crystals mixed with resin to create one of a kind unique look.  Early in the process I knew that I wanted to create items that anyone would be able to afford.  Anything from small functional art pieces like – chessboard trays or coasters to large more expensive fine art pieces. I must say that I’m proud of myself for being persistent and believing in myself to push through hard times even though I have failed many times before. If there was a message behind myself and my brand I would like to say to the world: “The American Dream still exists.  If a girl who immigrated from Poland without knowing English, not having friends or family here, nor further education was able to take myself through life with a dream of making something of myself and achieving my dream- then I guarantee you can you too.  Follow your dreams and go for it, don’t let anything stand in your way.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being that I’ve only been in the city for three years and I’ve been affected by the pandemic for a year of that, I would say I love exploring the city starting in the Heights and just kind of making my way trying random places to eat.  Houston has a very diverse cuisine, and you can find any and every kind of food.   I love going to the Houston’s Zoo and Museums.  I have attended the Houston Rodeo a couple of times and have absolutely loved that.   Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must say that the credit will go to my fiancé Michael Gorzkowski. Never in my life has a person supported and encouraged me on an everyday basis.  He tells me to go and follow my passion.  Thanks to him and the support of my two sons, I was able to go out on my own and start my own business. They encouraged me to think about my passion not just as a hobby but an actual business. Michael is and always will be my biggest admirer and supporter and everyone needs that to succeed.
