We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Fajardo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becca, what do you attribute your success to?
There are many factors contributing to my success, the top ones being: self-development and consistency. Self-development has allowed me to change my way of thinking and be more open to new opportunities through manifestation. Being consistent helps me make sure I give 110%, not only in my work but in almost everything I do. As with anything else, having a personal brand/business comes with it’s ups and down but I don’t see good or bad experiences, only learning ones.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a makeup artist for about 5 years now and I’m working to get into Special Effects makeup. This means I’ll be able to not only do makeup for photoshoots, events, weddings, etc. but also for theatrical/film events which I’m super excited about! Around 2016, I started learning on my own from YouTube tutorials but I knew I would do better with an actual teacher. I did research on cosmetology schools but they were all so expensive and didn’t really focus solely on makeup which is what I wanted. Eventually in 2019, I came across a Professional Hollywood MUA, Josue Martinez, who was doing seminars around the country and I immediately signed up. Within six months, I became a Certified MUA through his program! I learned many new techniques and I even got to help out with his last seminar in Texas. Even though it took me 3 years to become certified, I never stopped practicing. Especially with the pandemic this past year, it was very hard for me to stay consistent but instead of giving up, I continued to work on my brand and my skills so that I would come back better than ever. If you’re truly passionate about something, nothing should stop you from achieving it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to the museum district, check out the Natural Science and Fine Arts Museum, then we’d have a picnic at Eleanor Tinsley Park, overlooking Houston’s skyline! Throughout the week I’d take them to great food spots, like North Italia for a fancy dinner or Cuchara for the best Mexican food! If we needed to do some light shopping, I’d either take them to Galleria Mall or do some fun thrifting in Montrose, best of both worlds!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are various people who I’d like to recognize for always supporting and encouraging me but primarily, – My mom has been my biggest supporter since day 1. She’s gone along the journey with me and has helped me through my darkest times, always telling the right things even if it’s something I didn’t want to hear. & – Russ’ music, along with his book, “It’s All in Your Head”, talks about manifesting, the law of attraction, consistency, etc. which are things important to my growth as a person and business. Not every artist has a mindset like his which is why his work resonates with me.
