We had the good fortune of connecting with Blanca Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blanca, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Growing up, my parents had to work constantly to support our family. I appreciated their hard work but they didn’t have much time for me. Because of that, I knew that I wanted to have a good balance between work and my family. I figured that the best option to find that balance was to create my own lash business. I knew that owning my own business would have its own set of challenges, but being able to create my own schedule based around my family’s needs has been rewarding in and of itself. I can confidently say that my children feel supported by their mother 24/7. I feel like my younger self would be proud of how I’ve been able to take care of my children.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Becoming an eyelash artist was not easy at all and definitely has its challenges. Regardless of the challenges I made sure to practice day and night. There were many times I wanted to give up but I always pushed myself to keep trying and because of that, I’ve gotten to a place that I’m proud of. I’ve been able to open my own studio and build good clientele. One of my biggest flaws was always comparing my work to others. I’ve learned along the way that every lash artist has their own unique way of lashing so I started appreciating my own style. I want the world to know that never giving up on your dream is a key factor of success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think Houston is a very interesting and diverse city. I would definitely start by taking them out to eat tacos. Houston has the best tacos! There are many fun things to do like visiting the zoo, NASA Space Center, and lots of museums. I would definitely spend some time walking through downtown and visiting its many shops. Everybody is bound to fall in love with the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Joseline Cerritos from Bombshell Lash & Beauty Studio took me under her wing and helped my work get exposure. I will forever be grateful for her support!
