We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby J. Corpus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobby J., why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Truthfully, I’ve always been an artistic person with a creative imagination. In high school, I played multiple instruments like the guitar and piano, and during my sophomore year of college, I learned how to do digital art and animation. However, it was creative writing where I’ve always felt the most accomplished and happy with doing. I chose the creative career of a writer because I wanted to tell compelling stories that would resonate with people for the rest of their lives. Through writing, I am able to tell and show the worlds and characters that are inside of my head with other readers and writers alike. I hope that through my stories I could inspire other writers to tell their stories someday.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something that I am most excited about is finishing the publishing process and sharing my novel with the world. The biggest trick to being a writer, and perhaps any kind of form of art, is that you have to find the time to do it. I’ve only come this far professionally because I am constantly working and reading to improve my craft. And with that being said, it has never been easy but I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. What I really learned along the way is that you have to manage your time wisely. It is so easy to get distracted with other things, but what I learned is that you have to organize and prioritize things in order to reach a certain goal. On top of all of that, you’re going to make mistakes, which is fine just as long as you remember to correct those mistakes and don’t repeat them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So there’s a lot of places in Houston that I like to go to! I absolutely just love burgers, so one of my favorite restaurants is called The Burger Joint. The only thing I love more than burgers is coffee. One of my favorite coffee shops to get coffee while I write is a place called Antidote. And a place I think everyone should check out is Discovery Green. It is the perfect spot to hang out on a cool summer evening.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Someone that deserves some recognition is my younger sister, Priscilla, who has always loved reading my stories and has always encouraged to keep moving forward with my writing.
