We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobby Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bobby, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
i’d have to say the most important factor behind my success would be the hunger and desire I had to succeed. I started my career later than most of the others I work beside in this industry so I felt like I needed to put the burners on and hyper focus on learning this difficult medium. Another key factor to my success would have to be my mentor Fidel Casillas. Fidel not only taught me the mechanics of this industry but also taught me a work ethic That would help me get to where I’m at today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in American traditional tattooing, pulling references from the ones that were here long before I came around. It’s a honor for me to be able to come to work everyday , with all of my awesome clients, and do my best to carry on a tradition. I got to where I’m at today by hard work and Dedication. Nothing was easy or handed to me during my apprenticeship I did what was asked of me and then I did a little more. I’m proud of where I’m at today but It’s nowhere close to where I’m headed . a “Unrealistic goal” is what I’m shooting for.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I’m not at the shop working I’m out at skydive Spaceland Houston. Skydiving has been my hobby over the past five years and if my best friend is coming into town I’m probably gonna try to convince them to jump out of an airplane. As far as food goes I’d probably bring them to Tookie‘s in seabrook which is Southeast Houston. And if anybody reading this is ever in Seabrook and you find yourself at Tookies make sure you get the squealer burger, you won’t be disappointed.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Aside from my mentor, I’d like to give a shout out and a big thank you to my family @reddagger . I’ve been blessed to work alongside some amazing people that also happen to be insanely good Tattooers .
